JOHN KERRY: THE WARRIOR
I just finished watching Air Force One. I must say that its one of my favorite movies. I love the character of President James Marshall that Harrison Ford plays. Although I must say that his foreign policy goals are very similar to the current President's. Howerver, I somehow trust our national security MORE with Harrison Ford than with George W. Bush.

I also think that John Kerry would be the closest thing today that we have to a President James Marshall. He's determined, strong, and willing to defend this country whenever necessary. I bet that President Kerry could take out any terrorst hijackers on Air Force One.

So what do you guys think? Isn't John Kerry the warrior president or what?

1. That's one I still need to see
When JK went on Regis, they were talking about what actor could play him in a movie, and they said Harrison Ford!

When JE went on the same show, they said Tom Cruise should play him.

Yup, JK is a warrior--he's taken hits all of his life (and quite literally in Vietnam), and is tough as tempered steel. :)

5. I remember this!
Kelly said something like "is it inappropriate for me to tell you that you're very attractive?" and he said, "no, it's okay, we're both married." She was totally gaga over him throughout the whole interview - it was really cute.

close and personal, I lost my mind. Everything went black in my peripheral vision as his manly presence filled the space in front of my eyes. I'm telling you he is a sight to behold. Dana ; )

Maybe it's pheremones, I don't know. If it is pheremones, then I say we catch some, duplicate them in a lab and spread them around in front of any gathering of 'Security Moms' and then see what happens.

Seriously, Ahm, the only time I remember seeing Kerry fairly close up was this time I took this trip to DC with my sister. We decided to go to the Senate and see if we could get our 15 minutes of Gallery time. I was true to my wonky self and was so excited to be in the Senate Chamber. (I really am a terrible geek.) Since I only had 15 minutes of Gallery time, I did not expect to actually see either one of my Senators, but Kerry strode on to the floor and I swear at one point in time he did look up at me. (Or maybe my sister.) That was, ah, interesting. Unfortunately, I had to leave after that. Brief, but nice. (I'm probably leaving stuff out, but I remember thinking, "What are the chances that I'll actually see Kennedy or Kerry?" You just never know.) Other than that, it has been strictly from afar.

EDIT: I do deeply regret that circumstances did not permit me to meet with Sen. Kerry on that trip. I'm sure it would have been quite memorable.

21. Okay, so I'm having a girlie reaction
so sue me. I just love the Richard Avedon (sp?) pic that ran in the New Yorker. I saved that ish of the magazine. (That is the best sit-down photo of Kerry I've ever seen. He should get permission and put that one up on the web site.) Swoon, indeed.

Hey, female Kerrycrats are all reasoning and full of wonky reasons why Kerry and the other Dems are great. It's just that Kerry also touches, ahm, other parts of our soul and we, being free-wheeling Dems, love to express those thoughts.

What would an equivalent guy thread be here? (Besides NAtalie?)

22. yeah, guys, speak up!
I mean about JK. I'm curious: you guys must have some kind of emotional connection to the man too, right?
It would seem to me that he, being such a leader, would inspire some guy-loyalty. What say you? I mean, I've read Tour of Duty, and how his crew would follow him into Hell, if he wanted them to, etc. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

25. I have tremendous loyalty and respect for the good Senator
I must admit, that when I was first introduced to him during the 2004 primaries, he didn't warm up to me very well. However, as I got to know him through the campaign (especially after the debates), I developed a profound admiration and respect for the man. I agree with Kleeb, I view as MY generation's John F. Kennedy.

I would follow him through Hell, whenever and wherever. We still got your back, Senator.

26. That is almost a recurrent theme here
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 07:06 AM by TayTay
The idea is that there were a lot of ABB Dems last year who endorsed Kerry because he was the working alternative to *. (There are also some folks on this forum who have been JK supporters for a long time. I recognize that. I have liked the guy for a long time as well.) A lot of ABB-ers became genuine pro-Kerry supporters after those debates. Kerry's positive performance combined with Smirky's negative performance changed a lot of hearts toward Kerry.

I remember reading all the press about Kerry's first post-debate appearance last fall in Miami. He was accorded near Rock Star status. He entered the hall in Miami to the accompaniment of a raucous, loud, whooping, cheering crowd that exploded whenever someone mentioned the word debate. That was extraordinary. Even Kerry seemed taken aback by it. To reconnect this thread to it's beginning intent, it was the Warrior coming back out and people loved it. (And the polls not only indicated that Kerry had reentered the race, but that he had re-energergized his somewhat depressed Democratic base.) Those debates were an exceptional moment. They changed a lot of minds about Kerry and a lot of folks have remakred that they felt something when they were watching them that changed their mind about their candidate.

Well said Tay Tay. Couldn't have put it better myself. We need more warriors and fighters like John Forbes Kerry. Then just maybe, this world would become a better place.

8. He's remarkable
He has that tough steely side but he's also sweet and can be slightly goofy too (I love when his daughters talk about that side of him ;-)). That's what I find irresistible.
People who still insist that he's stiff or unapproachable are the types who believe what they're told more than they believe their own observations.

9. One of the Masculine Spirituality protypes is the Warrior
according to Robert Bly. The warrior protects anyone who is labeled "weaker" by the society, i.e. women and children. Kids First, pro-choice, 100% HRC rating...Kerry lives warrior spirituality.

10. YES YES YES
I saw that movie in the theater and hadn't seen it for years, but sometime during the campaign season (I think September) after I'd read Tour of Duty, I just had this sudden urge to watch it again. John Kerry IS President James Marshall. It was the best feeling in the world.
