Boston Globe article on the small business bill, on which Kerry wrote some provisions
The article quotes Obama saying it is a much needed salve for small businesses. Then says Brown voted against it and then gives Brown's inane reason.

“This bill includes a provision just like TARP,’’ he said after voting against the bill. “Banks making lending decisions with government funds is not the way to get our economy moving again.’’

His Senate Democratic counterpart, John Kerry, declared the vote a victory. “This bill provides vital aid to the small businesses that can drive growth and create jobs in these tough economic times,’’ Kerry, who previously chaired the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, said in a statement.

Kerry wrote some of the provisions in the bill, including an extension of some Small Business Administration lending programs and fee waivers.

<snip>.

“Thriving small businesses are ready to expand and hire new workers but just need access to capital to make it happen,’’ Kerry said.

Apparently, Brown must not realize that there are lots of small business loan programs - and have been for decades. Are all of them "like TARP"? Maybe Brown needs a small business tutorial on their next bike ride. Not to mention, TARP actually kept the banks, that Scottie likes and gave goodies to in exchange for his Finance reform vote, from going over the cliff. Not to mention, a large portion of TARP was repaid and more will be in the future.

It is nice that the article includes that Kerry has previously chaired the SB committee and wrote parts of a bill that should have easily passed. I do think it weird that they used a photo of Brown - when his contribution was just one of the no votes and an inane reason. Not to metion, Kerry is not his Democratic counterpart - that would be Al Franken, the junior most Democrat. Why not say the "junior Senator" and the "Senior Senator".

1. Good article. And to answer your question- because they want to make Brown appear more important
than he really is.

2. True, but here it almost backfires
Peopel liking him might read the article and see that he voted against a popular bill, that does what both Democrats and Repulicans spoke of needing to be done. (As a bonus they learn that their senior Senator, who once headed small business actually helped write some of it.)

3. The photo is just another installment in the "we love Republicans" the Globe has been playing since
December. (at least the reporting part).

They cant find anything wrong when it comes to Charlie Baker. They have an article about the primaries that is nearly completely about the GOP nominee in the 10th district (without of course mentioning his problems with ethics). And in addition, they have another article about the GOP chances in MA (OK, their chair is more pleasant to watch than the GOP chair). And this has been going for months.

4. I went and looked at the primary article you spoke of - and it is really
lopsided. It is amazing that when no unbiased observer sees much chance of Republicans defeating any incumbent and the national Republican party is giving them no money, the Boston Globe on page 1 speaks of challenge to the incumbents, then pulls back on page 2:

In the federal races, while Perry has fired up the Republican base, it is not clear how the other GOP challengers, most of whom are underfunded and who have little or no experience in politics, will fare in trying to dislodge well-financed and politically savvy incumbents.

Only in the last 2 paragraphs of the 3 page article do they go into the serious ethics problems of the Republicans:

Perry, for example, withstood publicity during the primary about his role as a Wareham police sergeant in the 1990s, when he supervised an officer who illegally strip-searched two teenage girls. But the Democrats are already hitting him hard over the issue as both parties look ahead to a major battle.

In the Fifth District, Golnik acknowledged recently that he was arrested in 2001 for charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. And in the Sixth District, Hudak, a first-time candidate and Boxford lawyer, easily defeated Saugus lawyer Robert J. McCarthy Jr. and will now challenge US Representative John F. Tierney, a Salem Democrat who has held the seat since 1997.

But Hudak has been facing questions about his statements urging a local newspaper to investigate whether Obama is a US citizen, and about a sign he once placed in his yard that compared Obama to Osama bin Laden.
