I also support it, but am worried that it may not make it. The current health care legislation out of the Finance Committee does not include the public option. Daschle says it won't pass Congress, which is why he is in favor of dropping it. Health care is not an area I follow in detail, so perhaps others have more insight.

We will all have an upfront seat to exactly how the "sausage" of legislation is being made. It is rarely pretty. I think a public option will survive. I am not sure what form that will take yet. And I am glad that the legislation is being held over the August break.

In 2006, most Dems were not onboard with Sen. Kerry in calling for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq. The August break gave legislators a chance to go home and take the temperature of voters. Turns out that the country favored a change of direction in Iraq. Iraq became the defining issue in that year's Congressional elections. I think it might work that way with health care this year, if people can remember to mention it to their Congressional members over the break.
