Video of JK in Somerville yesterday
JK was in Somerville yesterday to see the site of the Assembly on the Mystic development project (for which he was instrumental in securing the funding -- bringing lots of jobs to Somerville) and hold a press conference about the importance of the project. Luftmensch and I were there, and we've put video up on JKMediasource.org The full-length video is JK seeing the site with the mayor, the developer and various aldermen (and the Somerville chief of police), then the press conference. There's also a short clip of JK commenting on Obama's Iraq withdrawal plan, and another short clip (not on the front page) of JK explaining succinctly why the Assembly on the Mystic project is important.

It's great to see JK not only "bringing home the bacon" to MA but connecting the dots for people in terms of how the stimulus package they fought over in DC translates into umpteen jobs starting almost immediately.

It's also interesting to see this development site -- we decided to include just about all the "raw footage" of JK meeting people and looking around, in part because it's so interesting to think that what *will* be this huge, beautiful thing was once this rocky field surrounded with junk, with these politicians walking around on an icy, windy day talking about the plans. (Sorry for the booming wind noise on the video -- my first time filming on such a windy day; next time I'll be able to set the mic up to avoid the noise.)

I liked his answers to you on Iraq - and your questions.

4. Thanks for pointing that out - the third one was very very nice
He really did a great job explaining the impact and tying it to the stimulus bill passed. (If ALL the Senators were out doing this the approval of the package would be even higher.) I hope you guys didn't get too cold!

5. I agree!
I really liked the way he brought it down to earth -- that the stimulus bill means things like jobs right here in Somerville and turning this huge dirt lot into a mall and a T-station. I want to post this on BMG if I can think of how to frame it. Wish we had a lot more stuff about how the stimulus bill translates into accomplishments right here in our communities.

6. Your last sentence may be how you want to frame it - some random thoughts

That there is a real need for more information that translates the MA stimulus spending into jobs and long term assets for MA communities. You could then use that last clip where Kerry does this for that project.

This is not just a good government thing - where you want transparency and explanations of the benefits. It is not just a matter of increasing support for Obama, the stimulus package, or Kerry. In addition to tangible things like jobs and money, we need an increase in people's perception that the economy will get better and that the government is working with the private sector to create the new jobs we need to re-inflate the economy.

Kerry and others - Patrick, the Congressmen, mayors and the person coordinating the MA projects really need to be out there meeting local people and getting local coverage to both explain the package and also to keep people from feeling their leaders have abandoned them at a time when things are bad.

7. All good points
I think I'll make a BMG post saying things like that, and giving these clips as examples of leaders doing what needs to be done.

8. I'll watch for it and comment there
:) Your videos need to be seen by more people.

It might be that what Obama is doing with his outreach and Kerry with his recognizes that especially after 8 years of being lied to and having the government doing many things we would never have given them permission to do, there is a need to do something to make people trust government again. How do you get people to trust in their government again after the government over more than a decade has done things that have hurt them. I saw an exhibit at the New York historical museum on FDR. One thing they had was a selection of comments that people sent FDR during that first 100 days. It was surprising in this more cynical time how grateful people were for what he did and how much trust they expressed in his ability to succeed with what he was doing. Now, I realize someone chose the comments to include, but they were really nice to read.

3. *blush*
I'm glad you like what we put up! Thanks! But I edited the little clips confusingly -- I wasn't the one asking the questions (though he did speak to me for just a moment to thank me for filming, which was nice, but I didn't include that). I was running to keep up as he was trying to get back to his car and reporters were grabbing him from different directions, and so the clips came out so that you can't see who's talking to him. I should've added little title cards to explain -- I think usually I would, but I forgot this time. I'll fix 'em.

9. Great video
Perfect example of how the stimulus is going to bring us out of this mess.

I posted here

'Some' may call them earmarks, but they're jobs. And that's what we need.

Thanks for the video.

10. Fantastic job!
All the videos were just great. Sen. Kerry made a reasonable defense of the spending bill and of the projects that are going to go forward now.

Really, really nice job! congratulations!
