In the final month of his re-election campaign, U.S. Sen. John Kerry dished out $1.1 million including several substantial contributions to other Democrats across the country, according to his post general election filing with the Federal Election Commission.

The Boston Democrat, who raked in more than $8.3 million in contributions over the course of the cycle, finished the campaign with more than $4.2 million cash on hand.

Most notably, Kerry gave $650,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in the final weeks of the campaign. In the third quarter of this year, Kerry gave the DSCC another $1 million.

The Democrat gave $25,000 to the New Hampshire Democratic Party, and he chipped in $10,000 each to Minnesota Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken's recount fund and Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Jim Martin's runoff fund.

Sen. Kerry did have a post up at DKos in the last few days before the election that said to leave it all in the road. Guess he practices what he preaches.

And it looks like that money, along with the money all of us and others contributed, went to great use!!

politely but firmly in his place.

There are times when I agree 100% with "check", but in agreement with your comment, that is not what John Kerry is about. His continuous strong effort in 2004 and since is as responsible for the Democratic party's rebirth as anyone's. The Clinton sitting on their hands approach in 2006 - until the end when they made some well covered high profile appearances was as cynical as their raising about $60 million in a race where her competition was actually less serious than Beatty was in 2008 for Kerry and then making a high profile donation of $2 million to the DSCC - which was prominently mentioned in the "Hey John" nonsense.

The fact though is that Kerry's biggest contribution might be that he moved the Democratic party's agenda on Iraq, on terrorism, on the environment and probably on healthcare and even on economic issues. Though the media may credit Edwards (!), HRC or Obama - every major issue was there in the Faneuil Hall series of speeches, which preceded all their programs - and the basic elements were all in his 2004 platform.

It is frustrating that he doesn't get the credit deserved, but he and those close to him know that he has been a force working hard and well to repair the problems in the world. The frustration is also that he could have changed things faster and better if he didn't have other Democrats stabbing him in the back.
