Kerry on Imus
Basically a good call

Imus spoke of calling his Bush voting friends early on election day 2004 and gloating - he then asked if the Obama people were overconfident this year. Kerry said, no - you had to work hard to the last minute and that McCain could still win, but Dick Cheney could win the NYC Marathon. He did say the race would get closer and if people want change they need to get out to vote, The last two elections were close. 2000 decided by one vote - in the Supreme Court.

He did say that Obama was in much better shape. That the wrong way number in 2004 was 47, now (in the 80s), the economy was ok then, horrible now, and people have shifted their opinion on the war. Obama has run a superb campaign and has registered more people. (Kerry then said he didn't trust polls - you don't know who will come outr.)

Imus then said that if Obama runs the country as President as he has run the campaign - wow. he then mentioned that he beat the Clintons. Kerry agreed and amplified that by speaking of how difficult it is to build the campaign organisation and that Obama's campaign has been disciplined and focused. He said that Obama has sshown leadership and has dealt well with the pressures and scrutiney. People perceive that strength of leadership, especially as shown during the financial crisis. McCain was all over the place, then suspended his campaign etc,

Imus than mentioned Obama breaking his promise on financing. Kerry said he was one of the people who urged Obama to do so. He argued that when Obama was speaking of sitting down with the Republicann nominee and agreeing to do so, the intent was to end the 527 as well. (He mentioned his and Weld's campaign) He said that the federal system was broken and that Obama's campaign is a grassroots funded campaign - unlike the fat cat funding of the 527s. Imus then spoke again of him flipping on this and Kerry then gave his McCain flip list. Imus said why are you doing this, I'm for McCain.

He then spoke of Kerry's election and said that even though he was wrong on everything, he was a great main, integrity etc.

Imus then said the Obama infomercial had "no emotion" (!!!???) He then spoke of one of the peopel stories of a grand daughter of a slave who was able to vote for Obama. (So I guess he saw the emotion in the people, but not Obama) Kerry said he did see it and he thought it was very emotional and that Obama was calmly speaking of the plight of middle America.

There were a few digs by Imus - he mentioned that he knew Kerry long enough ago when there was a time he would have hit on Palin (a comment Kerry wisely ignored) and Imus asked why he used the depends joke - Kerry said that it was an old Bob Dole joke.

1. Wow, GREAT recap!!!
Thank you! Sounds like JK got in some good zingers, as he always has to on any Imus call, and also got some really good, hard-hitting points across. As I remember, Imus doesn't always put up archived audio, but if anyone sees this posted someplace, let us know -- I'd love to hear it!

3. Thanks for the link
Did you notice that yesterday he had Kerrey (misspelled with the better Senator's name). It was an interesting interview. Kerrey is clearly not an Obama surrogate, but he was very good speaking of Obama's appeal, less so on campaign financing. (Kerry was mentioned with Imus saying he voted for him "like a fool, but I like him a lot". Kerrey added that he did too.)

5. This is a great recap.
I hope there will be a clip.

OT: The clip of Kerry endorsing Obama reminded me of the clip of Kennedy in Iowa.
