John Kerry in Running for Vice President
http://poligazette.com/2008/08/16/john-kerry-in-running-for-vice-president/

Former Democratic nominee for the presidency Senator John Kerry is a top contender for Barack Obama’s VP. Although some may automatically assume that asking Kerry to become his running mate is a major mistake, Obama may actually profit from his colleague in the Senate.

Firstly, Kerry can still count on quite some support among activists. Secondly, there is the general notion in the media and US society that the Swiftboat attacks in 2004 were lies. Many, especially journalists, believe that he was treated wrongly back then.

Thirdly, Kerry is a good fundraiser.

The fourth reason, though, is the most important one; Americans love stories of redemption. Of a comeback. Kerry was defeated soundly in 2004. He fought hard, but was destroyed by his political opponents. But now, he’s back.

That’s a true American story. The American Dream; fall, but stand up. Blasted for not being able to beat an unpopular president the one election cycle, being the vice president of the first black president the other.

It would also once again confirm the notion of hope.

1. I just finished writing a family member that there was no way
this was going to happen. But I have to confess that reading this made my heart quicken a bit.

3. Kerry would be a great VP. But I am not sure I have the nerves for such a run!
Obama did say tonight that on foreign policy he would listen to Nunn and Lugar. My opinion is that ups the chances for Kerry as VP. Ha! Because, Obama has been channeling Kerry on FP for a long time now, not Nunn or Lugar. I mean Obama is his own man, but he seems to respect Kerry's views on a great many issues internationally.

I still say Kerry is a major wild card. Most likely it is someone else. Still, he would be a DAMNED good VP ... or surrogate ... or Sec of State .. or A.G. ... or high ranking Senator.

So there you have it.

5. I wouldn't have the nerves either. However, at least once a VP is picked the infighting usually
slows down and then all you have to worry about is the nasty republican media machine and their bloggers.

6. "not sure I have the nerves " :-)
me neither. Most of us here would probably need a collective virtual and as yet not invented targeted form of political tranquilizer. What poetical (and political) justice that would be, though...

Do yo think there is any merit to the speculations that people already slotted to speak are out of the running? Because if that's true (and I doubt it is), the ranks of the possible are getting incredibly thin... I don't remember of hand (and too lazy to check), is Kaine already slotted to speak? I hope it is not Kaine, IMHO no matter how much change we want in the air, it is just too damn risky right now, with his paper thin, relatively speaking, resume. We shall find out soon enough...
