2. Okay, pretty short. Andrea Mitchell asked him an annoying question,
saying that Kerry was characterized as being French in '04, and why this was a good idea for Obama to be speaking before a crowd in Berlin. Kerry said that in '04 the Bush people pushed fear, but that now it comes across as empty, especially considering how so many things have gone wrong like high gas prices. He also said that it was so exciting to see an American leader go to a foreign country and be cheered on.

Good surrogate work, but too short for me.

4. I wasn't the only one watching:
http://www.politickerma.com/editorma/467/kerry-obama-berlin-speech-things-have-changed-04

Speaking shortly after the Illinois senator's speech concluded, Mitchell recalled how the campaign of President George W. Bush (R) attacked Kerry as being "too French" and asked whether he thinks Americans are past the "aversion to all things European" that hurt his presidential campaign.

"I think four years ago people were scared and the Bush administration exploited fear," he said.

...

On the speech itself, Kerry said it was "not just historic but unbelievably exciting at the grassroots level" to see "an American leader" cheered on foreign soil after so many years of world opinion being against Bush's policies.

He said Obama told the Germans "not what they wanted to hear, but what they needed to hear" -- that America will return to leadership with the next president.
