Who else would carry on in spite of the nasty, nasty vitriol being thrown at him? Lesser people would have crawled under a rock and faded away. I find it quite remarkable.

4. Well, it is his pattern
He can be completely relentless when pursuing a goal. We saw that in MA after the first Congressional loss. He went and (say it with me now) worked harder, went to Law School, got the presecutor's job before he even finished Law School and then ran for Lt. Gov. That's quite the bit of patience there.

I think he has a goal in mind and unfinished business and that's that. He will pursue the goal with whatever it takes. (Four years, bah, that's not so long.) I admire the gumption and the resolve he has to do this. It's quite something to see, isn't it. No wonder all his staff is so young, they need to be in order to keep up.

6. That's a good characteristic
I'll admit that I'm not sure about his chances in 08. He deserves a chance but he's gonna face some tough opposition. Now, I love my party but, straight up, it's full of backbiters. I know the party can do better than that. Once we unite, we can win. Spitting on our own doesn't work.

5. He is so, so tough.

I know what you mean.

I get hate mail in one of my jobs (I'm a rock critic) and even the stupid stuff still stings. I can't fathom...!!! But then I haven't been to war, and I haven't personally faced down the BFEE and Reagan-junta thugs and the funders of terrorism, and...

well, compared to that a vicious press must be pretty small potatoes.

 John Kerry wouldn't demand that his virgin eyes be shielded from the sight of protesters who don't like some policy of his.

8. Well, after being on the Nixon's enemies list
and having to put up with the phone taps, the dirty campaigning tricks and all the rest, I would say he is kind of used to it and not easily deterred. (I mean, it cost a lot to still pursue public office after that kind of personal harassment. It cost him his first marriage and had a lot of other deep personal costs.) And now he risks the enmity of a lot of party regulars and wags who want him to go away so the path can be made clear for others. And he has decided not to go away. We don't have any absolutes that JK is running, but I think he is and I really admire his resolve. I do wonder how a person can have that kind of steel in their souls and where that comes from, but I am glad to see it. It gives me hope and is very inspiring.

7. He's been through so much...
It would either destroy someone, or toughen them up. With him it obviously made him tough.

What's remarkable is that it didn't make him cynical and bitter.

9. After being on a swift boat and being
fired on from all sides, I'd say he'd take it with ease. Again, a mere potatoe (Quayle spell check).
