9. Some ugly comments on the MYDD thread and even the Kos diary
They think Kerry should have accepted the offer and taken McCain as VP, and we would have won the election. Now they hate Kerry even more. Good God. I commented on MYDD.

10. Some of those people would hate Kerry if...
... he personally came in and cured their cancer for them.

11. Idiots. What do they base this assessment on?
Oh, sure, McCain as VP would have been just the ticket to a win. If anything, this says more about Edwards than Kerry.

15. I commented on Dkos
What I didn't say there - I just spoke of the political incompatibility - is that there are 2 huge reasons it would have been a disaster.

- Bush knew exactly the buttons to push to get McCain to explode - there is no way he would have gotten through the General election.
- It would make Kerry a target as he moved to end the war.

2. Hey -- Prosense -- ask the poster if he intends to do a diary on dkos.
If not, maybe you should crank one out. I have to head out, but I really think this is big. Bad week for McCain, that's for sure.

12. Of course, media are already asking why Kerry did not answer earlier to these questions
and remind previous articles stating that Kerry was desperate of having McCain on te ticket, asking why he did not contest these accounts:

13. That's a moonie paper
but this will likey come up. I assume Kerry considered the offer confidential and until McCain responded to the other story by lying, he saw no reason to call McCain out.

Just add in http://www. to the link

Oh my God. It doesn't even sound like Kerry. Here they went too far with the lie:

According to Weaver, Kerry personally called him, begging for McCain to change parties, saying it would, “change the country.” Weaver noted that it would be ridiculous for McCain to join the Kerry campaign because they disagreed on foreign policy.”

Kerry’s overtures did not end with approaching McCain. According to Salter, one night: “Kerry woke me up from bed, pleading with me to get McCain to change his mind.” Salter says that Kerry told him: ‘Everything is hypothetical, so that if I’m ever asked about this, I’ll have plausible deniability.” Salter says he answered: “Well then hypothetically, I don’t think it will work.”

Begging? Calling in the middle of the night? Hmmm . . . I wonder if we switched the name McCain from Kerry, that the above story would make sense.

17. Moderate Voice has it. They believe Kerry:
http://themoderatevoice.com/politics/2008-elections/11924/john-mccain-is-toast-for-good-reason/

Now, coming hard on the heels of reports that McCain considered defecting from the Republican Party, is having trouble raising money and made a fool of himself befitting Michael Dukakis in the most heavily armed photo op in president campaign history, is the news that John Kerry says that he sounded him out about joining him on the 2004 presidential ticket — and not the other way around has had been rumored.

18. Politico has McCain's answer as well.
Apparently, by this few comments, Kerry has touched a nerve with McCain. What an elaborate answer to what is basically a couple words. Note that Kerry does not say anything about the talks. He just says that McCain is the one who started the taks.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0407/3415.html

Now, I can understand that McCain is getting a little bit desperate right now, between the Bagdad market, the fact that many Dems are now saying he considered becoming an independant and siding with the Dems, and now this.

But, John, it is not nice to lie.

21. and as expected it is absolutely biased to McCain
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 09:42 PM by karynnj
The problem is McCain has conflicting comments on the record and on tape on this - and Kerry doesn't. It's too bad Kerry got interrupted at that point - it may well be that it was lower key than the sentence seems.

It's just me, but I wonder if it was smart to say this - although I assume it was true. Just saying that his stories in 2004 were made up would have linked to denying what many others may be able to confirm on 2001.

McCain - from one old thread on this - apparently had claimed that Bush wanted him on his ticket (I think 2000) when that was not true.

The McCain stuff seems over the top. Kerry could likely prove he didn't call McCain's aide in the middle of the night.

20. Senator Kerry was ecstatic about the idea? Where is the proof of that?
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 09:10 PM by wisteria
Also, there is not proof that a Kerry/McCain ticket would have won. That is just conjectural.

22. Gee, I will go back to watching Senators on the floor during votes
It could be interesting to see how Sens. Kerry and McCain interact. That should say a lot right there. (Ah, I hvae a DVR, I put it on, go do stuff, back up the tape and run it at 4X speed. It isn't nearly as obsessionally geeky as it sounds. I think.)
