What's been going on ?
i just got back on Monday. i caught the JK news on not running just as the news came out on the BBC. it was breaking news on there. i have to say that while i was disappointed it wasn't too surprising. too many assholes out there. i think with all the attacks he has to deal with and fix it might only be possible outside of a Presidential run. kind of like Gore did and maybe Clinton who has gained more respect while being out of office.

if you don't mind, maybe some of you can give a small update on what has been happening in the last 3 weeks.

1. The easiest way to see - is to go to johnkerry.com
The main page has 3 excellent interviews Kerry did on Monday. Lokking back over "news" and the "blog" there are likely the easiest way to see what happened.

An executive summary is:
1) Kerry gave about a 1/2 speech detailing the situation in Iraq now and in the last 5 minutes announced that he would not run. His reason was that there are important things that need to be done now on Iraq and on global warming and he would work in the Seante instead. He said he will run for re-election in MA.
2) Kerry gave testimony on global warming to Boxer's committee and in the Commerce committee, he also gave a brilliant statement and he did a stunning job questioning a Bush person - who made the mistake of responding at one point that their goals were the same as his. (I think the committees still have archived video)
3) The Kerrys will be statring some appearance for their book soon.
4) Chris Heinz got married.

2. I think the following links will sum up what's been going on
I wrote up two diaries which will get you started as to what happened with the announcement and the aftermath of it.

This diary is about the speech Kerry gave on the day he announced he wasn't running. He talked about Iraq but he also gave a dire warning about Iran. Kerry's words resonated with dailykos big time, I can tell you that:

The second diary was about how horrible the MSM has treated Kerry -- just awful. However, I think things will improve (if this past week is any indication), but you should know what was done to him in the last couple of weeks:

As Karynnj said above this post, johnkerry.com is a really good bet, because you can watch his appearances and check out the blog posts to know what's up. But I'll highlight a few posts, you might really like:

A Thank You from John Kerry to . . . . us

http://blog.johnkerry.com/2007/01/thank_you.html

The Story of Brian Freeman and how his loss of life in Iraq affected Sen. Dodd and Sen. Kerry

http://blog.johnkerry.com/2007/01/brian_freeman_an_american_hero.html

What Sen. Carper said about Kerry (really, really nice)

http://blog.johnkerry.com/2007/02/fighting_global_warming_part_i.html

Then just check the last week's posts for all of his appearances.

Of special note is a beautiful and extraordinary diary Prosense wrote (as AllDemsOnBoard) on dailykos about Kerry's 4 decades of fighting for the truth
