3. Thank these Senators.
This is a very courageous move. These people are stepping up for that special form of abuse that the RW media has for people who dare to oppose them. The President and RW media will call these folks people who don't support the troops, which is a cruel lie.

Anyway, drop them a note. Tell them thanks for doing this. Cuz, you know the RW will be notifying the Flying Monkees to send hate mail. (We need to counter that.)

4. You have the abuse part right. It is starting already.
Question, how does the military determine what soldier is suppose to get funds and which one isn't? So some will not be protected and some will.

Oh, and the suggestion that Reid will not even let Edward's bill come to the floor for a vote.

7. I am sure she meant
Edward Kennedy, but you are right, it is open to misunderstanding, not to mention misappropriation :-).

:-)

I too doubt that Reid will let Ted Kennedy's bill go to the floor. In addition, it has to go thru committee and Biden has clearly said he did not think it was a good thing, so, I am not sure it will even have a chance to get out of committee unscathed.

The Dem leadership needs to hear from us about how much we want this war ended ASAP.

8. Where's Feingold? Webb?
It is great to see the other names cosponsoring this bill, with John Kerry. But I want to know where these two "anti-war heroes" are. And who else is missing?

10. Durbin as well.

It seems there is a debate between a bill that has teeth and a bill that is toothless and would state that the Senate disagrees with the President.

Some people (starting by Reid and Biden) contend it would be better to have a sense of the Senate that would get Republicans on board and do not want to be compelled to vote to withdraw funds (even in a manner as limited as here). I suspect this may be Webb's problem.

15. Where have we heard this before?
This is just like the difference between Kerry/Feingold and Levin

11. Ah, give it time.
Sen. Feingold has a bill on withdrawal on the floor. I think he will probably support this bill and I bet others will as well, including Sen. Durbin.

It was only filed yesterday.

12. Not sure about Webb -- he was on NPR today, and
he says the president needs to have a plan -- this is actually consistent with Teddy that the plan needs to be debated in the Congress. But Webb dodged questions about the funding.

I didn't hear the whole interview so I'm not sure if he had to directly answer a question about Kennedy's bill.

13. I would not be surprised if he did NOT co-sponsor
of particularly support. (I doubt he will actively oppose it as well.) Sen. Webb might, and I repeat might, take the tack that we can't punish the troops for the incompetence of the commanders. This is part of 'the Vietnam' argument. (Do not abandon the troops or allow your political opponents as portraying you as abandoning the troops. There is something to this and it has to be done carefully.)
