Blogs about Kerry's meeting with "bloggers".
Seth Gitell has a series of article about your meeting with Kerry,

http://gitell.wordpress.com/2006/12/13/grassroots-in-action/

including a account of the meeting by TayTay.

Humble Elias has also a small post on his blog.

3. Ha, ha -- so is Elias fairly nice to JK?
Somebody should e-mail him that all he needed to do was basically show up (if he's a Kerry supporter), and he could have gone.

4. Elias is usually very fair to Kerry.
However, Gitell made a disservice by his first post. It is good that TayTay corrected him.

5. He should show up at the next speech
and make known the fact that he wants to talk to his Senator. It worked for RevDeb from firedoglake and she posted as much a while ago on her blog, firedoglake and DKos. It didn't seem like there were that many barriers in place to an interview to me.

Just make the effort buddy! Sigh!

9. Did ya'll know that you made the "banner" on MSNBC
last night??? I saw it streaming during either Hard Ball or Count Down with Keith!! It mentioned 43 bloggers (from as far away as Nebraska) meeting with Kerry for his birthday bash!! You're all famous!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :toast: DC

I only wish there were some way I could document it!! I couldn't do a "screen capture" to save my life, but maybe there is some way to figure it out??? I damn near fell off the couch when I saw it! It went by so fast , and then it was gone. Not enough time to give anyone a heads up!! Way to go guys, you really made an impression. Tay , wasn't the Nebraska thing mentioned in the "globe" article? Sorry, Boston Herald article!! and I see you mentioned Cal. and Miss., not Nebraska. So Kerry's people must have told someone, or seen the postmarks????

19. Yup. I saw it too the other night
I dang near fell off the couch as well. OMG, we made a national news scrawl on a cable politics show. (Harball. I didn't watch the other MSNBC shows, but I saw it on Hardball.)

Oh my! (Autograph line forms to the left people. I got a real swelled up head now.)

11. It mentioned Nebraska???
That was ME!!!! I was the only Nebraskan there!!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

In fact, when JK found out I was from Nebraska, he looked really startled. Pleased, but surprised. And I told him I have a whole TWO other friends (not counting DH) who are Democrats. He got this pained, wry grin on his face and shook his head and gave me a sympathetic "Oh dear." It was quite funny.

12. That tells you something -- that one person can make a difference
That one person . . . is YOU!!

By the way, when I sent an e-mail to friends linking to the Boston Herald, I included your prayer that you gave JK. I just thought that juxtaposition would blow minds and make them rethink what they feel about him. Hope you don't mind.

13. I loved that prayer.
Edited on Fri Dec-15-06 09:32 AM by TayTay
Hmmm, didn't a certain tall Senator's comments from Iraq just the other day echo some of that prayer?

Maybe, just maybe, he took it with him. Wouldn't that be cool!

14. Aw, that was nice.
I don't mind passing on the prayers at all. The two Welsh ones are on the internet, and so is St. Patrick's Breastplate (though I used a different translation from a book of Celtic prayers). And they appeared to be either in a Common Prayer collection or just traditional prayers, so they should be in the public domain. There were no bylines on any of them, so have at.

And Tay made reference to something that probably is just a coincidence, but I prefer to think is connected (because it makes me feel all warm-fuzzy inside)--

I noticed in the news clip of his press conference Wednesday, he made a statement that went something to the effect that because of the volatile times in the Middle East, he couldn't think of anything more important than getting a policy of "war and peace, life and death" right.

Those are pretty common word pairings, but both of them "happened" to appear in the first prayer on the card that I gave him.

O God,
Lead us from death to life,
from falsehood to truth.
Lead us from despair to hope,
from fear to trust.
Lead us from hate to love,
from war to peace.
Let peace fill our hearts,
our world,
our universe.
We ask it for your own name's sake.

So I was just speculating with TayTay that perhaps the prayer influenced his word choices at the press conference. Probably NOT, but it's fun to think that maybe it did. I hope he did take the card with him. Our prayers will be effective with or without the card, but...hey, it makes a great bookmark! :)

17. It sounds to me like he did read it
and even if he wasn't intentionally quoting it - it may have influenced his words. Although, as you said, you chose it because it fit him - which it does. He did carry things with him though the campaign that had meaning to him, so I would bet he did take it.

6. Actually,
Edited on Thu Dec-14-06 10:25 AM by whometense
As a BIG Elias fan, I know - he's a solid Kerry supporter, but also pretty self-effacing.

I exchanged emails with him yesterday after I read his post. Believe it or not, I was thinking of him on Monday - I really thought he should have been there, but didn't feel it was my place to invite him.

He was fine - his post was teasing, but I think he appreciated finding out what the story was.

7. Glad to hear, whometense. That was good that you e-mailed him.
Because it has been obvious that Sen. Kerry will make time for bloggers (probably more the "small" bloggers than the "big" ones), even those who are not supporters of him. I think that he really likes that grassroots people have created an independent media from scratch, and regardless of who they support, if anyone, Kerry is going to encourage them and give them access for interviews. Look out for local blogs in Iowa, NH, NV, and SC becoming an ever bigger part of the primary process.

8. I agree.
Joking or not, I wanted to be sure he wasn't feeling spurned. JK needs all the bloggers who like him actively on his side.
