I can't decide which is more depressing....
President Bush or the fact that some of his most passionate opponents here on DU are now lamenting our failures-yet-to-come as the result of just another SOTU Bush and pony show. Talk about spineless! All this Chicken Little hand wringing has got to stop.

Furthermore, there is an awful lot of criticism of Reid and Pelosi out there relative to the amount of arguments being generated against Bush's ideas. Focus people- FOCUS!!!

I don't know what to say. Some of these people need to get their heads in the game. Neither Bush's speech nor our response will be the resurrection or death of the Democratic party. Why must people do this to themselves and to us?

1. Reid and Pelosi's responses were good
and did focus the democrats' opposition to Dubya's SSI plan and his lack of exit strategy in Iraq.
They are still good leaders and the Democratic party will rise again. Keep the faith, hon.

2. It's not the party I've lost faith in
but rather the quitters and whiners around here. I understand that people won't necessarily stay with one political party or set of beliefs all their lives, but to just bitch without contributing, and then bitch more when the party doesn't do exactly what you say... damn.

Please tell me that ordinary Democrats out there in the offline real world aren't fickle like this lot. Please =(

3. I say piss on them people
Apparently they need to clean their damn ears out where they can hear! Because I sat and watched the whole damn thing (State of the Union) and if you listen close most of it was pure bullshit and democrats were not falling for it either. Did thet watch the expressions on the faces of dems when they showed them, did they see Kerry literally laugh at something * said, did they see the go to hell look by dems when he made the snide dumbass remark about the up and down vote, these people need to grow the hell up. And if they really listen to Reid and Pelosi they would know they didn't fall for the bullshit rethoric * was saying. As I said these people need to grow the hell up and quit being the damn firing squad on democrats and point their damn fire in the right direction towards * and his cronies. Damn already.

5. I suppose it comes from a feeling of helplessness
"Do something!" (poke, poke)

"DO SOMETHING!" (poke, poke, poke)

We think we're powerless, so we poke the people who are supposed to be on our side because we don't think they're moving fast enough, or expressing the outrage that we'd like to express if we had the same platform.

Then again, maybe they just like to kibbutz while eating a bag of cheetos in their underwear.

6. always keep in mind
that this board isn't remotely representative of the Democratic Party, or progressives, or liberals, or anything in the real political world.

7. Thank God.
I said in another thread that "Kerry is a fucking loser" does not fall within the realm of "criticism". Someone replied simply "to bad, he is", to which I said "As are you".

I know I shouldn't give them the time of day, but it felt good.

8. All these arguments devolve into
hissy fits over power that cannot yet be assumed.

Remember that you are part of the party base as well. Challenge these people and ask them where your place is in their New World.

I wrote this in a thread today, it has not yet been asnwered by anyone.
*******************************

I am also the base of the party. I have been a contributing Dem for almost 30 years. I have given time, energy, money and effort to trying to get Dems elected. Does my support as Joe-average Dem count less than yours? Am I any less of the base than any supporter of any other candidate? Do I count at all to the reformers?

10. I didn't post on that thread
Although I admire your attempt at conversation with the single syllable idiot OP. My new strategy with that poster is to ignore his/her threads in the hope that they will drop off the front page as quickly as possible.

Your "I'm also the base of the party" argument is a excellent one, in fact, I used it numerous times back in the days when I was still on "speaking" terms with the poster in question.

Unfortunately, it's pretty much a waste of time, as his/her blinkers are as opaque as any freepers.

9. as I go through life I have observed,
(she says philosophically): people have a tendency to criticize others over what they themselves are guilty of. Don't you think these critics are at least subconsciously aware the they are losers--so are quick to pick up on and label any action of someone else with the same thing. It's called "projection" according to Freud.

So in response to "Kerry is a loser" I'd think to myself, "oh, so you think you are a loser, huh?"

heehee--that is the fun of having a minor in Psych!
