Senator Harkin Defends Chavez

Greg, while Congressman Rangell did the right thing and bashed Chavez (despite doing a 180), Senator Tom Harkin couldn't do the same.

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a democrat, today defended Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's United Nations speech in which Chavez called President George Bush the devil. Harkin said the comments were "incendiary", then went on to say, "Let me put it this way, I can understand the frustration, ah, and the anger of certain people around the world because of George Bush's policies." Harkin continued what has been frequent criticism of the president's foreign policy.

Harkin says Bush came to office saying he wanted a new humility in foreign policy in reaching out to other countries, but Harkin says Bush's actual policy has been heavy handed. Harkin says the anger against Bush is generated from the Iraq war, which Harkin says was "unnecessary."

4. OMG! This is at the bottom of the Factcheck.org page:
Did Kerry Vote "No" on Body Armor for Troops?
Yes, along with $87 billion worth of other things. But Bush didn't send enough in the first place.

GOP shill fucks!

5. *sigh*
They have the snappy "fact check" - we have the innocuous "media matters". We're behind even when we're in front.

6. Hey -- I fought that garbage over at my local blog

What are they all in a conspiracy together? I linked to the HuffPost, and the next thing I know, some local RWer is posting about him not voting on the bill. Then you guys helped me out with some facts, on how his vote would not have mattered, so he did not return to the Senate because he was campaigning. Meanwhile, Allen voted no. God these people are creepy.

Edited to add: oh never mind. they were talking about the $87 billion.

7. John Kerry never voted against giving the troops body armor
That whole $87 billion vote about paying for it honestly. The Repubs were not saying how they were going to find the $87 billion in the budget and refused to revisit their tax cuts for the rich in order to finance their war.

Why do't we just revisit the Bankruptcy Bill from last year as well and see who voted not to give our troops a break on home seizures and predatory lending. Ahm, excuse me, but Repubs are taking campaign contributions from organizations that charge 300 - 400 % interest on loans to 'our troops.' These people are complete liars and couldn't care less about 'our troops,' especially if they are called to sacrifice a bit to do so. Bullshit artists, every last one of them.
