OT: Please help me on my blog!
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 07:24 PM by StoryTeller
Hey, my Kerry friends,

I have a blog connected to my author site, and it's mainly focused on parenting, adoption, and women's stories. Well, as part of the "women's stories" category, I posted about my feelings about the Iraq war. Most of you know I actually am surrounded by pretty conservative folks, so predictably the couple of comments I've gotten on this post (since I posted it Wed. or Thurs.) have been really pro-war because most of my readers are conservatives.

I don't want to look like I'm argumentative or combative. So I was wondering if a few of you (especially the gals, since it would look suspicious if a bunch of guys suddenly start posting on my blog) could leave some comments tactfully explaining your reasons for being against the war. No need to come down really heavy on them--my readers tend to be very sensitive and polite, so would be easily shocked at DU-style arguments. But if you could help provide the balance for this view of the war, I would really, really appreciate it. I'm feeling a little isolated--on my own blog!

Also, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE if some of you would consider registering and becoming contributors on the blog. I need some left-leaning voices. There's a "Tell Your Story" button on the right sidebar that explains how it all works.

Here's the link to that particular post:

Thanks!

2. Wow, who posted just now?
It had to be one of you guys. We must be listening to the same speeches.
I swear I didn't read yours first, whoever you are.

3. Done, and with pleasure.
I tell you, I seriously think that some of these people, if they KNEW that others not so different from them were opposed to this war, would come around on their way of thinking. Did you notice how lame their comments were? They have no CLUE why we are in Iraq, just some vague notion of being "protected", and they really need to read alternative opinions.

Great blog, Storyteller.

5. Thanks, Beachmom
And yes, I noticed how lame the reasons for support were. It's frustrating--that's the sort of mindset I'm usually surrounded by--whether here in my town or on the internet. If I didn't love them so much I'd just say screw you and move on. But they're really sweet people, and it's so frustrating when they are so blinded to what's really going on. And I can't bring myself to give up on them, because I used to be one of them, so I keep hoping eventually something will make them wake up and see what's really happening.

However, the good news is that my family--particularly my brother--seems to be lessening their support for the war and Warmonger-In-Chief. They're slowly, painfully becoming aware, and it does give me reason to hope.

That's why I didn't want anyone to blast the ones on my blog. They're really good-hearted people. They've just been brainwashed. Thanks for being careful with them--I wouldn't want any of them to be hurt. They are precious to me, even when I think they're being foolish. :)

6. I also have a lot of conservative friends
Actually, what annoys me about them is not that they're totally for the war. It's that they're complacent and pay no attention to the news whatsoever. They voted for Bush, and then gave it not another thought. The war doesn't really affect them, nor does the torture (hope you don't mind my comment on that, but it is in the news this week), so who cares? I would actually prefer someone who TRULY believed in the Iraq War, and could give reasons (concrete ones) why we should be there. This would show that they at least thought about it. I think it is more an insult to the troops when people just ignore what is happening.

7. That is the greatest tragedy of all.
It is simply immoral on every level to lie to good people. (Gawd, I know what you mean.) These are people who do give up their sons and daughters to go to war and they want to believe that it is for the best of reasons. It is beyond heartbreaking to have to say that it isn't.

That's why some of us are so relentless in why we show up and try to help. The deceptions and games being played on good hearted people is just beyond our ability to endure.

Thanks for being there as another voice. It matters so, so much.
