WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) will present a national Town Hall Meeting on the state of the U.S. energy crisis at its 36th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). The ALC will be held Sept. 6-9 at the Washington Convention Center. The National Town Hall Meeting, Confronting Crises: Achieving Energy Independence, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7 at 9:30 a.m. Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. John Kerry, Kweisi Mfume, T.D. Jakes, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Rev. Al Sharpton, Dick Gregory, Danny Glover, Grant Hill, Blair Underwood and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among the notable participants.

The town hall discussion will focus on current energy challenges and opportunities confronting America. Panelists will discuss challenges facing American families and communities with regard to home heating needs and gasoline prices. Panelists will also address alternative energy strategies that must be implemented to reach the goal of energy independence. In addition, attendees will hear about the great environmental and entrepreneurial opportunities our energy transition will create for Americans.

(snip)

Panelists include former Secretary of Energy, Governor Bill Richardson; former Secretary of Energy and President of Fisk University, Hazel O'Leary; President of the Apollo Alliance and Chair of the National Wildlife Federation, Jerome Ringo; Former Congressman Joe Kennedy; and representatives from Blacks in Energy. News personality Ed Gordon will moderate.

Any chance for C-Span coverage, I wonder?

2. That is a busy day
Does that likely mean that Senators Kerry and Obama will be late to the SFRC or can they vote with proxies on that? (I seriously doubt any public discussion will change anyone's minds.) "Town meeting" doesn't sound like an all day thing.

3. They are going to be discussing
many topics.

More than 20,000 people will gather for the ALC. Additional conference highlights include a Welcome Ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 6, with keynote Rev. Al Sharpton. More than 50 Issue Forums and Braintrusts will offer timely topics such as protecting pensions and health care benefits, the War in Iraq , and voting rights. Some of this year's participants include Sen. Barack Obama, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Danny Glover, Iyanla Vanzant, Dick Gregory, Grant Hill, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Blair Underwood, Myrlie Evers Williams, Isaiah Washington, and Kweisi Mfume.

JK could talk on everyone of those issues. Funny how they leave his name out in this section.

4. I wonder if Teresa will represent the family.
Thursday is Mayor O'Connor's funeral.
Considering their ties to Pittsburgh, I hope one or both of them can attend.
Busy day, indeed.

5. I can't imagine they would miss it.
Teresa will surely be there and I'm sure the good Senator will be as well, if his schedule allows, as will a goodly portion of Dems from the Northeast.

Will the current Jr Sen from PA attend? This particular specimen of Republicanism doesn't strike me as being a 'class act' and I wouldn't be surprised if he did not show.

6. I honestly don't know.

I'm sure he would be received ummm... politely.

There was not a single sign of republicanism in Pittsburgh today for the parade (which was dedicated to the Mayor), except for the Vietnam Vet with an anti-Santorum sign and a rat with "Rick the Rat" on his back.

It was joyous. As though the lot of them dropped off the face of the earth.

I think we'll all be much better behaved on Thursday, though. Some things transcend politics. After Santorum's ugly remark regarding Bob Casey's dad, though, it won't be easy.

Personally, I really hope Ricky makes some excuse. His attendance would be distracting.

Did you see my pics from today? I'll go grab the link.

7. Oh, yes and I meant to put up a comment
These were excellent. It sounds like it was, in a way, a strange day. Very solemn and sad and yet still manged to observe the Holiday.

You did a great job!
