Showtime's - The Borgias!
I watched the first episode (it may have been two episodes together since it was over 90 minutes long) of The Borgias. Let me preface this all by saying I probably could not dislike anything Jeremy Irons does. HE is one of my favorites, and he showed why my loyalty is well placed IMO. He rocks as Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI.

The first episode begins with teh deth fo Pope Innocent and shows how Borgia and his son bribe the cardinals to have him elected pope. Jeremy Irons nails the part.

His Borgia is going to be a little like Tony Soprano, the bad guy you love to see, but secretly hope in the end he gets his just deserts. If you know your history, you know how this all turns out. I for one am lookign forward to watching the the show.

2. When it rains ...
I usually complain that there is nothing to watch on TV, now I have the Borgias, Camelot and The Killing, all of which are excellent. Then True Blood starts up again, and I have been missing my vampire porn.

3. Yes!
I've been waiting for this since they showed the teasers months ago. Looks like it will be really good. Too bad Sir Derek Jacobi had to exit so soon, he's always good for a bit of scenery chewing, lol. And I completely agree about Jeremy Irons, always love his work.

The assassin character is interesting...how he will play both sides without getting nailed by Caesare Borgia. Is he based on a real person? One of the reasons I wanted to watch this series is that this part of history is one I've never read much about, so am hoping to catch up so to speak. I realize that it is drama not a documentary, but if it keeps my interest I will hit the books for the real story.

4. I took a class in college on the papacy
and we spent two days on the Borgias. There are a lot of great books out there.

The assassin is Don Miguel "Michelotto" de Corella. He is possibly one of the most vile henchmen in history. He should be a HUGE part of the show. If they show some of the nasty things he is alleged to have done, it will be something never seen before on TV.

Borgia's time as Pope is one of the most insane chapters of the history of the papacy. I don;t want to spoil anything, but stick around. Its going to be fun.

5. Thanks
I know that I have a book on the papacy somewhere in a box, that I never got around to reading. Will have to dig it out. I went through 12 years of Catholic school, and can you believe it, they never talked about any of this!!! I can just imagine if I'd come home and told my Dad that there were popes that had wives and children...... :nuke:
