Survivor 21 Ep 11: "You Started, You're Finishing"
Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 03:16 AM by lazarus
SZJ, that was ridiculous.

I almost (almost) understand why Caustic Soda (NaOH, get it?) quit. Having anemia can cause pain. But you're telling me Dan isn't in greater pain? He can barely stand up! She's just a child, and she showed that with her incredibly selfish move at the end of the Reward Challenge.

Speaking of sacrifices, Holly just made herself a huge F3 threat.

Back to NaOH: I now believe she is the most vile person to ever be on Survivor. Worse than Li'l Russell, because Russell would never quit. He was delusional, but he was playing to win. She was just a force of chaos in the game that was only out to ruin other people, then leave when things got tough.

BTW, she's dating Dreamz, from Survivor Fiji. I can't think of a more fitting pairing.

On to Kelly. She quit for one simple reason: She wasn't on the right side of the numbers, so she was taking her ball and going home. I've known a lot of people who simply quit when they're losing, and they're all incredibly immature. She will regret this later in life, while I don't think Na Onka will ever understand what a horrid person she is.

This marks the 4th episode without an Immunity Challenge, iirc. There was Episode 6 in Australia when Mike Skupin fell in the fire. Episode 5 in Palau, both tribes went to TC, and Koror, the winners of the RC, gave Immunity to Ibrehem. Finally, episode 6 in Samoa when Other Russell fainted during the IC, so it was cancelled.

On the game itself, I'm loving this right now. Alliances are fluid, everyone's playing everyone else, nobody's a clear target. It's seriously anybody's game. I'm pulling for Jud, as he's a lot smarter than he's playing (yes, he's playing dumb, imo) and is a serious challenge threat. He totally threw the IC last episode, as soon as Brenda was out.

This is shaping up to be wild finish.

One side note: The product placement was anvilicious, wasn't it? The hour started off with a commercial for that silly looking film, then it was the Reward. I don't remember ever having a challenge themed to a product placement reward before. There have been product placements (DO-ritos, anyone? Or those Survivor trivia themed Pringles?), but I can't recall a time it affected the challenge itself. Let's not do that again, mkay?

On edit: There have been a couple of challenges that involved construction, where the prize was tools from Sears or Home Depot. Definitely in ASS, but I think in a couple of other seasons.

This episode was pleasantly light on Jane, whom I despise with the fire of a thousand suns.

So, here's where things stand, if the editors aren't playing tricks with us (Kelly almost quit early in the game? Really? Thanks for showing us that!).

Jud, Benry, and Dan are a triad. Jane, Holly, and Chase are a triad. Each triad thinks Sash is on their side.

Sash has three real choices, all of them dangerous:
1. He can ally with J/B/D, of whom two are serious challenge threats, and be on the bottom of the totem pole.
2. He can ally with J/H/C, two of whom are serious challenge threats again, and two of whom (Jane and Holly) are serious F3 jury threats. He would, again, be on the bottom of the totem pole.
3. The most dangerous of all, but the one with the biggest payoff, is to swing vote himself into the F3. This require allying with one side, booting someone from the other side, then flipping back, always taking out challenge/jury threats, leaving himself in F3 with Dan and either Chase or Benry. It would be very difficult if Jud is the challenge monster I think he is.

He has the advantage/curse of known possession of one HII. Chase's is presumably a secret. It's entirely possible the troikas will band together for one vote to take him out as too dangerous. Also, swing votes tend to get voted out if it's too obvious that's what they're doing.

I think Sash is voted out next, then the two triads battle it out at F6. I don't think either triad is smart enough to rope Sash in for one vote, then blindside him, although that's what they should do.

One last edit: How funny was that sound effect when Kelly said she couldn't suck anymore? I rewound and played that one a couple of times.

1. I think you are right about Na.
She is vile, very vile. Did you notice all the smirks and head shakes when Na said she had been a very real threat to win? Clearly the other players were just keeping her around because she was needed for her votes, and because it was not yet her time to go. She never had a shot at winning.

I have never agreed with you about Jane, though. I like Jane.

My husband and I had a discussion about Jud tonight. We both like him. He is a better player than the editing, and his behavior, have shown. He has integrity, too. That is hard in this game. And didn't Na give him the name Fabio? I seem to recall that it was not done in a good natured way. It was meant as a derogatory thing.

I have no respect for those two women. Jeff was visibly disgusted, too. Look at all the people who battled to stay there and were sent home anyway. And they are on the jury? I hope the players, as they get voted out, let those two know what selfish brats they are.

2. Vile
NaOnka is vile. I knew she wouldn't give up her spot in the reward to get the rest of the tribe rice and a tarp because she's a vile, selfish, pathetic, and deluded excuse for a human being. I hate that she got as far in the game as she did, and now gets to sit on the jury along with players who desperately still wanted to be in the game.

I'm just disgusted by Kelly, who seems pathetic and clueless, but not despicable like NaOnka.

Sash just looked lost last night. I'm not sure he has it in him to play the swing vote game, but he could surprise me.

I'm liking Holly more and more, though doing that for the tribe put a huge target on her back. She was a complete whackadoodle at the beginning, but has redeemed herself quite a bit. I'm not sure she makes it to the end, however.

I agree that Jud is much smarter than he's letting on. He seems like a nice kid, to be honest. I wouldn't mind if he won.

I have mixed feelings about Jane. She's a huge F3 threat. But I find her, overall, to be a negative person.

IMO, Dan could've given up his reward spot, too, as much as NaOnka. He did nothing to earn it. That he didn't is less odious than NaOnka not doing it, because she'd already announced that she was going home. Still, he should've volunteered.

3. Dan couldn't volunteer
Jeffrey only asked the four who competed if one of them would volunteer, a couple of times. He pointedly left Dan out.

13. That sums up how I feel about it...
I could NOT believe Naonka would be so selfish. She knew she was going home.

I think she has something wrong with her.

7. There should be some disincentive to quit in the contestant contract.
How many thousands of people would give a vital body part to have a 1-in-9 shot at a million bucks and these two lame brains just walk away? Not that I'm not thrilled to not have NaOH on the screen or have to listen to her blathering any more, but damn, there's no drama in people quitting at tribal council.

10. Yes there should be a disincentive.
They get paid to be there, even when they do not win. Fine them substantially. That does not count for people who are injured or who have to leave for other medical reasons that develop during the course of the game. But quitters should pay.

8. Hey Everyone
I watched last night's episode. I'm a few behind, so I don;t know everything thats been going on. Had some difficult family issues lately, but I had a night to myself and watched survivor.

I HATE quitters. While I agree Naonka is the worst person and player ever, I somewhat am going to miss her if only for the strife she caused. Taht said, what a terrible person she is. I would never want to meet her.

I somewhat disagree with the love Laz has for Holly, but I may have missed something int eh last two episodes, so I will reserve judgment until I have seen them.

My take on this is that Sash will flip around between Fabio's group and Chase's group until the end. He is the swing vote this week and is surely safe. I suspect he will team up with Chase this week and get rid of Benry or Fabio, as they are the strongest other than him or Chase. I think all of them need to get rid of Jane, who can't be beat IMO. She is now my favorite survivor ever, knocking Rudy off a post he would never give up.

I agree that Fabio is playing. Overall, great episode. I love that Jeff lets his hatred for teh quitters show. I wish they were blocked from the Jury though.

9. I agree about the jury
If you quit, you should be done -- no jury duty.

12. I also agree.

If a player no longer wants to be part of the game then they should have it their way and be sent home and the last two castaways who were voted off before the jury was formed should then be given seats on the jury by default. I don't relish seeing NaOnka on the jury in any case.
