Sopranos chat-up / show and move predictions before final episode - spoilers for sure...
Looking at the other Sopranos thread I see this one needs a refresher.

First off, the show is now fundamentally different. Major characters are out of the picture, right down to the damn pool (the ducks, which I could never figure out).

I honestly see Tony getting wacked this Sunday, but what's this about a movie?

But... how COULD they have a movie with so many major characters gone?

BUT... I do see Tony getting wacked, because David Chase is known to have said that he knew HOW (not if) that was going to happen before they made the first episode... but *I* think if a movie were to happen, it would show what happened in the year 2000 - when they were off for a whole year. THAT would allow them to bring back EVERYONE...

I appreciate you starting a new "Sopranos" thread. It's difficult to wait
until Sunday.

I like your idea about a movie being based on what happened during the year that they were
off. That's really interesting. They've talked about a movie before, now everything is
hush hush. I think they want to keep a lid on all plans, so they don't give away any of
the final-episode.

There are so many theories about what is going to happen.

I believe in my gut that Tony will lose absolutely EVERYONE around him, and that he will
remain alive to suffer the untold pain. That's a fate worse than death.

You mentioned the ducks. In the very first episode, Tony has a panic attack and collapses
because the ducks fly away. Dr. Melfi helps Tony to understand that the ducks represented a family.
When they flew away, this stoked Tony's deep fear that he will lose own family.

Tony's mother's mantra is that life is a big nothing and you die
alone in your own arms. I'm sure Tony fears losing his family because of her, but also
because of his position in organized crime. In the very first episode--when those panic attacks
begin--he's rising to the head position in the mafia--because Aprile has cancer. Tony senses that
he'll be the lead--and he understands (probably unconsciously) that this will destroy the loved
ones around him.

"The Sopranos" has given us a front-row seat to the slow destruction of this
family--and has demonsrated how Tony's fears have become a self-fulfilling prophesy. AJ went
from a jolly kid to a brooding, suicidal, lost young man. Meadow was so smart and she gave
up her dream of becoming a doctor to marry a mob guy. Carmella has only gone into deeper
denial---as her family problems have worsened. She's an expert enabler.

Did you see the "Heidi and Kennedy" episode? There's a scene at the end, where a truck is
backing up to water and dumping asbestos. You clearly hear ducks quacking. In my opinion,
this is more symbolism about the horrid consequences of Tony's destructive life. He's poisoned
the ducks, just as he's slowly poisoned his family. Slowly, they'll all just die off.

I predict that Tony loses all family members. However, I don't think they'll all die. I wouldn't
be surprised if one has been feeding info to the Feds for a while (Meadow?). Maybe Carmella will leave Tony
for someone else and go into witness protection. We know that AJ is self destructing.

I wonder about Dr. Melfie. I sense that we haven't seen the last of her. I wonder if Tony has
an epiphany at the end--with Dr. Melfie helping him process the breakdown of his denial. I wonder
if he finally realizes that he is solely responsible for destroying everyone around him.

I'm braced for total heartbreak!

I recently listened to an NPR interview that David Chase did a few years ago. Just as you said---
Chase divulged that he created the ENDING of this show before he wrote anything else. I'm prepared
for an extraordinary, stunning ending. It must be so clever and dramatic. Chase also said that when he
created the show, it was based on his own therapy, his own mother issues and working through his own demons
about his family. Tony's mother, Livia, is based on David's own mother (YIKES!).

The ending will be highly personal and painful and it will revolve around Tony finally facing his
inner demons and his dysfunction (which is fueled by his hatred for his mother--that he will
not face).

I also predict the final scene involves the ducks. Maybe we'll see the result of their exposure to asbestos--which
will symbolize what Tony has done to his family.

Just my thoughts....I'm no Sopranos expert, but I do love this show! :) I'm interested in hearing
what others have to say about their predictions!

5. well I also thought Dr Melfie would play a bigger role in the finale
but . . . when she shut the door on Tony in the last episode, ala the Godfather, I think that broke the link with him. I think that is now over.

2. well, you certainly could base a movie off AJ
and that would allow Tony to get whacked . . .

Think of the supporting characters
- Carmela of course
- Uncle Jun is still around
- Meadow
- Sil might survive
- Paulie Walnuts
- Dr. Melfie

That alone is the making of a great movie - ala Godfather Part II.

Lots of Tony flashbacks . . . the possibilities are endless

3. Phil dies; Tony, Paulie and Silv live
I am hoping that Benito Fazio, the kid who played Doogie Houser's best friend so many years ago, will get revenge on Phil and pull the trigger. Remember when Phil beat him nearly to death.

I figure Phil comes to see someone close to Tony to send a message, and Tony gets him when he is in the open. I figure Tony and Paulie have a huge battle and live. Silv is reported to come out of the coma toward the end. I hoppe Tony gets arrested in the ending scenes. I am thinking someone close, maybe AJ, dies.

4. I am wondering abot the Arabs who hung out at the Bing, terrorism and AJ
There were some Arabs who hung out at the Bing. Then Tony noticed them with the Arab community and that they didn't hang around the Bing anymore. He told the FBI agent who had been re-assigned from watching Tony to watching for terrorists about these guys.

And the agent tipped Tony off about Phil.

But AJ has been talking about terrorists, and at the end of last week's episode, when Tony burst into AJ's bedroom, AJ's computer screen showed that he had been looking at a terrorism page.

So I am wondering if AJ will do something against the Arabs in the neighborhood, or will join them in an act of terrorism. And I don't know how that will relate to anything else.

But..I have felt Pauli has been doubting Tony beginning when Pauli got out of prison. I wonder if he will decide to somehow join what he perceives as the winning side--Phil Leotardo's, and double cross Tony.

6. Is everyone else finding it difficult to wait?
With less than 24 hours to go--it's very difficult to wait for the season finale.

It's been a fun and interesting ride. I will miss the "Sopranos". I can always
watch the re-runs on A & E.

Does anyone have a favorite episode?

I watched "Pine Barrens" the other night. So many laughs in that one. Paulie eating
those ketchup and relish packets--with his hair sticking up all over. Classic.

Here's to our last Sunday evening, viewing a never-before-seen "Sopranos"!

Salud! :toast: <------pretend those glasses are filled with a nice, red Italian wine.

8. Google "Sopranos final episode predictions"...
...and you'll find a ton of stuff.

I've read so many "spoilers" in the past week---I've got brain fry.

At first, when I read a couple of "spoilers", I regretted it--because I realized that I
really didn't want to know. Then, I kept reading "spoilers"--which are really just guesses.

My mind is so filled with these characters and a million different scenarios--that I don't remember
any specific spoiler.

There are people out there who claim to witness filming of a couple of scenes. A couple of these
are pretty credible. However, no one knows the ending.

We have about 12 hours to go!

:)

13. Spoiler...
No, millions of tvs went black tonight. I thought the power went out.

I'm really, really disappointed in this episode. Phil was killed. Other
than that, nothing happened. There wasn't resolution to ANYTHING. If anything,
there are more questions NOW, then there were a few episodes ago.

Sil is still hanging on, Tony might be indicted, AJ now has a pyro penchant,
Meadow is probably marrying a mob guy, Tony still has mother issues and AJ's
shrink is probably his new therapist.

Were we punk'd???????? Are we supposed to wait for the MOVIE to get some answers?

I'm pissed.

I listened to an interview with David Chase. It ran on NPR two years ago. He spoke
about the ending and how it personified the "rise and fall" of a mob man--and the ending
was typical of what happens to high-flying mob guys...they crash.

There was no crash. There was nothing. Chase also said he thought of the ending FIRST,
before he wrote the series. Please. He wrote that FIRST...as if it was some big epiphany?

I didn't want Tony to die, or anyone else for that matter. However, I wish something
would have happened. Anything.

14. Spoiler
I was sooo disappointed. I knew that something was up less than halfway through. I mean there was no way they could consolidate everything in a decent fashion. Still I never expected the end. Nothing but black screen isn't something one can set themselves up for.

Bah! A pox on the writers and all those responsible.

I watched on SlingBox and TiVO this afternoon when the screen went black, i thought my system froze up. WTF??? That was lame.

Maybe they did it to CTA in case the new series all bomb?

25. Thank you. This was my problem as well...
I downloaded it off the internet (or I could subscribe to HBO and pay to see all the Madonna movies every month, yeah, sure) and when the ending came I SERIOUSLY thought it was a problem with the downloaded file! I was punked! Then the titles came... gasp.

I thought the ending was clever and everything, but I absolutely am on the same page as you. If it wasn't for this damn interview, I wouldn't have had any expectations. As it was, however, I think that Chase simply couldn't cough up an ending good enough for himself.

23. Yup....conveniently left everything open for the inevitable movie...
Lame, lame, lame....glad Phil got his though...

All in all, a very frustrating, less-than-satisfying end to a fairly mediocre couple of seasons...

18. I must be the only one who liked it!
All throughout the episode, I kept thinking to myself "no, don't let them whack Tony or his family... no, don't let that happen" and the further into the episode it got, the more it seemed like that was inevitable, although it was moving awfully slowly for that to happen, unless the final scene was going to be like the Italian restaurant scene in Godfather (II?), and so of course when all the Soporanos were meeting for dinner in that little place, it was all set up for a massacre... and I kept thinking ... noooooooooo, noooooooooo.... AJ is finally getting on track, noooooooooooooooo don't let it happen!

And then the black screen. My first thought was "what? no fair!" but then immediately I was relieved, because they are all still alive! I mean, to us the viewers, we get to create our own ending, whether it be that the Feds arrested Tony, or the whole family got taken out at the restaurant, or things just continued on as they have for the past several years. Whatever ending each one of us wanted, we got!

:D And I realized it was brilliant, and I was happy.

(but wasn't it odd that they were at a restaurant that we've never seen before? Why not Artie's?)

21. I LOVED IT!!
I really felt the paranoia that all mob guys must feel. Everyone seemed like someone about to kill Tony, and that is how he lives every day of his life. Even after the Phil threat was put to bed, there is never any rest. Life goes on. He will get arrested and charged, but he may win. He will be scared, his family will live on, and so it goes.

22. After sleeping on it, I think it was a great ending
Of course, I first thought my sat receiver had gone out!

There was quite a bit of tension from the moment Tony walked into the restaurant. Where was Carmella??? Then she came in and then AJ and things were okay. Then the guy at the counter and the other men walking in. And Meadow with the parking! I thought sure they'd all get killed but Meadow would be late and run into the killers on her way in. It was quite suspenseful. And you can't stop believing...

Brilliant although frustrating on some levels.
