SURVIVOR FIJI - Pick the winner & win a prize! - NO SPOILERS!!
I watched the TV Guide Preview for the upcoming Survivor season. It is a pretty good look at the players, and gives the details of the first challenge. This year we have 19 survivors. The original plan was for 20 broken up by race, but on the eve of production, one wihte female dropped out, leaving the show with 19 and 4 unbalanced tribes, so they shifted to two tribes and the "haves v have-nots." This should be fun.

Anyway, its time for my annual (or seasonal since we get two seasons a year now) contest. Hard to believe this is Survivor 14. We are off to Fiji for this series. It sure looks beautiful.

If you have played before, please do so again. If not, join us. The game is simple. Pick a survivor, and the one that lasts the longest wins. I won for the first time last season when I picked Yul. I still have that t-shirt, so that will go to the winner. Its a basic XL t-shirt with a survivor logo on it.

Here are teh rules, the contest opens on Tuesday February 6, 2006 at 9:00 am (Eastern time or GMT minus 5 hours). DO NOT MAKE ANY PICKS UNTIL THE CONTEST OPENS ON FEB 6 OR THEY WILL NOT COUNT! The first episode airs on Thursday February 8. The contest remains open until Sunday February 11 at 11:59 pm, which is over three days after Survivor's first episode airs.

Once a player is picked, that player can not be selected by anyone else. The first to post a player gets that player. The longer you wait, the greater the chance that the player you want will be taken.

Good Luck and I hope you all play. Also, please do not discuss any spoilers in this thread. If you know who wins or have some inside info, feel free to use it to make your pick, but I don't want to hear about it. I like to watch the season unspoiled.

How are things with my fellow Carnivale' fan? I got Season two on DVD for my birthday last year. I miss that show so much. I keep hoping Knauf will write the third season as a book. Anyway, glad you are in for Survivor this season.

3. I miss it too!
I got an autographed script of the last episode of Season 2 ......by Daniel Knauf. It was from the LA. Carnivale gathering. He sent it to me since I could not attend the gathering....I made reservations way before I realized my best friend, who was running for US Congress, had the Democratic Primaries at the same time.

So, he sent me the script.

5. There's a lot of diversity again this season
I was really surprised. I hope they don't divide them up by race. It was interesting once but I don't want to watch it again. I really hope they don't divide them up by sex. I HATE that. It becomes such a "girls can't do anything" and "we need to show the boys we can actually do stuff" thing. Ugh. I think it is most interesting when a group of ages, gender, ethnicity, etc. are thrown together.

I have no idea who'll I'll pick this time. No one really stood out for me. I have a few days to think about it at least.

(While at the CBS site I was also noticing that Rob and Amber will be on Amazing Race All Stars. I had hoped it wouldn't be true. I know some people like them and think they make the game more interesting but I am sick of them being on TV. It's like the Real World people on MTV, they are on too many shows. Their 15 minutes are over, get someone else that hasn't already been on 2 Survivor seasons, 1 Amazing Race season, and had a wedding special on CBS. I also noticed that their occupations are now listed as "TV personality". :eyes:)

7. It was going to be racial tribes again, but now its not.
But a white woman quit the evening befor efilming began and they could not replace her on such short notice, so they eliminated the race separation and broke them into two tribes. Its goign to be one tribe that has an easy life, with a great shelter and food. The others live in the woods with noting. We will see.

Rob and Amber make me laugh. They have a TV show on now where Rob is a poker player and Amber fights with him.

8. I pick Yau-Man!
I was really impressed by Dre during the TV Guide Channel pre-show. I liked him a lot and was gonna go with him. Then I saw Yau-Man. No one "old" has really been a "finals player" since Rudy. I like YAu-Man. He is from Malaysian Borneo, which has a little Survivor history. He is an MIT grad. He is into bicycling and woodworking. I think he can do it. Plus, from his interveiw on the TV guide network, he just seemed so cool. He has a great view on life and impressed the hell out of me. I hope he does well. I am going with Yau-Man. I also just want to be able to say "Yau-Man, you the Man."

10. Wow - lots of strong choices this year
Like Mookie, Liliana, Eguardo. NO ONE this time put anything in their resume to indicate they are a strong swimmer (remember how Ian the dolphin trainer dominated any of the swimming-related competitions?) so that makes it harder. Not that none of them ARE strong swimmers - but they might have "forgotten" to mention it.

Boo looks like a younger, less follicle-challenged version of my S.O., so he was really tempting.

Gary, owner of two miniature dachshunds and a strong kayaker, sounds interesting, too, even if he's an old man (for Survivor) of 55

Yikes. Guess I'll go with the Iraqi vet and former marine. So put me down for Liliana!

Thanks Dr. S!!!! :hi:

Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 05:47 PM by dr.strangelove
Good pick. He looks like one of the strongest players. Alex and Dre will probably be the strongest "physical" players, but Edgardo is no slouch. According to the CBS site, he played Davis Cup tennis and is a beach volleyball player.

29. Thanks
That is nice of you both to say. I get a kick out of it and all it costs me is a cheap t-shirt. The cbs store attached to the letterman theatre is about two blocks or so from my office. So I walk down there and hit the clearence rack. They usually ahve a few survivor t-shirts, along with whatever the big cancelled show of the season is and tons of raymond and old letterman shirts.

33. Thanks Dr. S!!
Wish I had stopped at the store myself.

I was just up there for an audition (my S.O.'s) n which was held around the corner from the Letterman theater. I made the mistake of stopping in Iguana, a big Mexican restaurant, and ordering a Marguerita. It's NY -- it's a cheesy Mexican restaurant obviously designed to fleece tourists - how strong could the drinks be???

Thank God I wasn't driving is all I can say.

Anyway, thanks for ruining Earl and The Office for me -- now I had to keep tuning back and forth between them and Survivor to see how my girl did. Weird - everyone I picked as looking promising (except Mookie) ended up on Green!

Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 06:42 AM by liberalnurse
he is probably going to be the irritant survivor. I felt so bad for Sylvia. There were sea snakes everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared:

Gary, who they called "Papa Smurf", he really looked winded after the challenge. This may be tough on him, although he is at the "comfortable camp" which will help with physical recovery.......Yaw Man is soooo cool! I think he will go far. His humble attitude is a winner!

38. No way, the guy that calls himself DREAMZ is going to
be the one people can't live with. He's just immature and doesn't respect the fact that others don't always want to hear his loud mouth especially when they are trying to sleep. He wasn't that impressive in the challenge so he'd better learn to get along and not piss people off. Rocky took Dreamz talking for a while when he said something to him.

I was impressed with Yaw Man.

I don't remember her name the black lady with the big hair may be next because of her bad attitude and she's not a huge factor in challenges.
