Survivor Cook Islands - Episode 9 Discussion Thread
HOLY SHIT. That was a GREAT ending. What a surprise. I heard there was a double eviction coming, but I did not think they would find out about it at tribal. I was totally blown away by that. No time to talk or think. Wow, this makes the merge more interesting. If its now, its 5-4, with Nate having to feel like the square peg in the "white tribe". I'm note sure how I would react to watching a newly reformed white tribe pick off people of color who I wanted ot keep. I agree with him that it was a huge mistake to keep Jonathon around. I bet he turns on Adam at some point.

Ozzy and Yul are kicking ass at the challenges. They are carrying that team. Becky was gonna drown in that water. I was glad Ozzy smaw out tot he last bouy first and gave them a lead that they could not lose. Becky seemed to carry them at both puzzles. That girl has a problem solving mind. I love that team.

1. WOW, what a twist to the game...
I think Nate is the first to go after the merge or next if Jonathan can keep his mouth shut. Nate is a physical threat to everybody and he doesn't seem to be in on the numbers game right now. If Jonathan can make it to the merge I think he'll go top 5 with the game he is playing.

I'm not sure if Adam is not that smart or if he is immature by saying the things he's saying. He needs to learn some sugarcoating quick.

From the previews for next week, Yul needs to learn that only one person wins a million and to stop telling the world that he has the idol. What can I say Ozzy rocks, if I were out there I would vote him out quick before he gets to the merge and dominates like Tom and Terry did.

2. Great episode!!!

I especially enjoyed seeing Jenny get her walking papers after selling Rebecca down the river. It's amazing that people don't bother to think this game through. They should have gotten rid of Jonathan regardless of how many fish he was catching for them. Rebecca was not the only reason that tribe was losing challenges. If she were then what was the reason they lost even when she sat out? The fact is that Ozzy and Yul are monsters and they are pretty much making the other tribe look like a bunch of weak losers. I wonder when the merge will happen.

I think the race thing has been a very interesting experiment. It's something how the minorities have been integrated and the white tribe has found a way to separate themselves. I don't know if it means anything but it's interesting.

On Edit: With Rebecca out of the race, I am out of the contest but it was fun playing anyway. One of these times I'm going to pick a winner!

3. I have a question for anyone who can explain it: Why do the contestants
always talk about final four, final five and so on? There's no prize money other than the $1mil for the winner, right? I understand what being in the final two means, but what does it matter to coming in third, fourth or fifth?

This has been bugging me for a while now, LOL.

4. Because, for numbers, they have to convince a group
it's the only way to talk a group of people into voting as a group. It's a way to keep 4, or 5 together until it gets to the point of every man for himself (or a duo, or whatever)

I agree, it does sound silly, but each person hears "final 4" and thinks to themselves "yeah, but I'm still in the final 2"

And what a great episode this week!

5. Thanks. And yes, it was!
What a bonehead move for Candace and Jonathan to mutiny. But I love how it pumped up the Aitu tribe. And how about when she was feeling all sorry for herself on the island about "the people she thought liked her" constantly sending her there, like she had no clue why.

6. I was surprised they didn't send Jonathan though
if he had been separated, it would have been more likely that his new tribe would have conspired against him; but Aitu probably didn't realize that, they probably thought that he and Candace were tight or something. I don't really understand why they sent her and not Jonathan, unless it was silly payback for being the first to mutiny.

It will be sad when the new foursome has to break up though.

I am totally pulling for Ozzy, I think he is awesome, if not a bit naive.

7. I think the four whiteys
are more tight than we are being edited to see. They fact that they all "knew" to vote for Jenny on the second vote indicates they are still working together.

9. The higher you get the more money you get...
You don't get a million but I think second is $250k or something. Once you hit the final three it comes down to an immunity challenge to make it to the finals and face the jury. The final four get decent money while the others get compensated for their time.

10. The prizes have not been confirmed
but some winners have mentioned it. Here is the best guess:

Winner, $1,000,000
Runner-up, $100,000
3rd, $85,000
4th, $70,000
5th, $55,000
6th, $45,000
7th, $35,000
8th, $27,500
9th, $20,000
10th, $15,000
11th, $10,000
12th, $7,500
13th, $5,500
14th, $4,500
15th, $3,500
16th, $2,500

We know the prizes were much higher for all-starts too. Probst has confirmed the top three prizes in various interviews. The rest is mostly guesses.
