Babylon 5 Movie Starts Filming in April
Babylon 5 Movie Starts Filming in April
Source: Production Weekly December 8, 2004

Steven Beck will direct a big screen adaptation of the popular sci-fi TV series Babylon 5. The movie, titled The Memory of Shadows, is intended for theatrical release and was written by series creator J. Michael Straczynski. Production Weekly reports that the project starts filming this April in the UK.

In "Shadows," the technology of the ancient and extinct Shadow race is being unleashed upon the galaxy by an unknown force, and Earthforce intelligence officer Diane Baker, whose brother was recently killed in a mysterious explosion, it out to find out who is behind the intergalactic conspiracy.

Joining her is Galen, a techno-mage who has been charged with keeping the technology out of the hands of those who would abuse it.

Galen was my favorite new character (He was on "Crusade")
And if they get Peter Woodward to play him again, that's even better.
Woodward was excellent...mysterious and quirky, kind of a cross between Ambassador Kosh and "Q". He knew more than he would ever tell anyone, and that which he did tell, he tended to be whimsical in his information.
And he knew his Tolkein quotes, too.

4. I can't imagine JMS would write this with Galen
if he couldn't use Woodward. I know he had to do some rewriting after Richard Biggs died, so I think he really does things with specific actors in mind.

6. Oh yeah...
I totally forgot that JMS won't re-cast a character. He'd re-write the story to fit a different character instead.

5. I'm not looking forward to this.
I loved the series but those spin-off TV movies sucked.

7. I hope it'll be good
but as someone else mentioned, those made for tv movies bit hard. I hope it has a real movie look and feel to it.

9. More news....looks like it might be a BIG movie
Yesterday's news story about the rumored BABYLON 5 movie loosened a tongue with one of our readers, and today we've got more information to share about THE MEMORY OF SHADOWS. According to a previous report forwarded via one of the United Kingdom based B5 Yahoogroups, the BABYLON 5 feature is heavy into pre-production at EMI Elstree Studios. Additionally, this current phase of production is under the aegis of production manager Peter Heslop (whose credits include GLADIATOR, STAR WARS EPISODES I and II and WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT).

You don't get someone with Heslop's background just to do a small scale film. Evidently, JMS is REALLY thinking on a big scale for the movie.
