Poll question: Most annoying Star Trek TNG Character
There were bunch which drove me nuts over the series. My vote has to be Tasha Yar. I would have mailed her a bottle of "skin of evil" for every lousy performance I had to endure in the first season.

I included some characters that I like, Riker for example, but some people really hated the character.

Am I leaving anyone out?

1. I thought she did well in "Yesterday's Enterprise".

2. I agree
By the time this episode came around I was accepting of her presence in the series. Denise Crosby decided to leave the series because she did not have enough of a presence. Her dialog was brief and lacked substance. To this end, I guess you cannot despise her as much as the writers that developed Tasha Yar. I think it worked out in the end, Worf became a strong character which has endured through two series and the TNG movies.

3. The only episode centered around her sucked.
I mean other than "Yesterday's Enterprise". I am talking about all the episodes where she was a cast member. "Code of Honor" was crap. That was the only one other than "Skin of Evil" with her dying. I think she had a lot of potential and Yesterday's Enterprise proved it. I think that they didn't bring her out as much. But it at least made Worf more focused.

4. Other - Deanna Troi
Maybe it was that ugly purple-grey outfit, or maybe it was the fact that she seemed to exist only to say "I sense deception from him."

In my opinion, Deanna's only redeeming quality was the fact that her existence justified Lwaxana's character. I thought SHE was hilarious - more so in Peter David's Trek books than in the series, but still funny either way.

5. You're right. Some people really hate Riker.
And I'm one of them! ;)

Actually I don't hate him nearly as much as I used to. But then, I haven't really been watching TNG much lately.

I think what takes him from minor annoyance to pet peeve is that he's from the Northwest (like me) and plays the trombone (like me). Since he irritates me (I think it's the smugness), I guess I take it personally.

I'm lukewarm about Tasha Yar, but I hate Skin of Evil.

Wesley is just too obvious a choice for most irritating. Plus Wil Wheaton is cool.

6. I don't hate Riker so much as I hate Frakes.
Heartless bastards like to bash Wesley (who was adorable and could do no wrong as far as this nerd girl is concerned :)), especially for being Roddenberry's "Mary Sue" but Riker is way more of a Mary Sue character, especially in the last couple of movies.

I mean I'm just waiting for the next Trek movie to have an armada of every villainous race that's ever been on Trek approach the Enterprise, and line up to blow Riker because he's so great. :eyes:

7. A lot of people like Frakes.
Even if they don't like Riker. To his credit, he Directed Star Trek: First Contact. One of the best Trek movies.

8. That's true---that actually made me like
him (Frakes, not Riker) *much* better. I love First Contact.

On the other hand, his guest appearance on Lois & Clark, where he spent the whole episode making out with his soap opera star wife, made me want to gag.

10. So? He's still a bloated egomaniac
With Mary Sue tendencies. Can't stand him.

First Contact was the best of the TNG movies but that's like saying Jessica Simpson is the best singer in her family. It was a great action flick but I really did not appreciate the retconning in it (of course, that means I don't watch that unnamed alleged Star Trek show that's on TV right now).

17. A Mary Sue is
a character that the author of a story uses as a stand-in for his or herself. They are usually too good to be true---they can solve problems no one else can, everyone is madly in love with them, etc.

9. None compare to Wesley
I can't stand that little prick! I'd buy the DVDs, except I'd also have to own the two dozen "WESLEY SAVES THE ENTERPRISE AGAIN" episodes as well.:puke:

11. Wesley's cute so it didn't bother me
You know who's an even worse Mary Sue than Wesley? The goddamn Doctor on Voyager. I don't know who Robert Picardo was sleeping with at Paramount but every. Damn. Episode everything all went to hell until the Doctor saved the day! YAY! :argh:

Yet another sci-fi show where the fanfic was 800 times better than teh actual show...

14. Yeah
Anyone who doesn't vote for Wesley here I just don't get. All the characters had their 'annoying momments'

Tasha Yar...WHO WAS SO OVER THE TOP
Deanna Troi...please, spare me that shocked expression. You're an empath, shouldn't you be used to getting these feelings by now?
Commander Riker...I liked the beard, but not the way he walked like he was trying to slam his head into a wall.

and so on.

But Wesley was usually in full on "going to tosche station" whiny annoying mode. :)

18. I know everyone hates Wesley
but Wil Wheaton is great. Check out his blog: www.wilwheaton.net

He's a great guy with a mature perspective on his ST experiences. He's also a liberal and not shy about it.

21. Gonna get flamed for this, but I can't STAND "Q"
Mr De Lancie is a fantastic actor, and he made Q his own, but Q's gimmick got real old really quick. His shining moment was when he introduced the Enterprise to the Borg. Any episode with Q that comes on after that, I turn off. That includes "All Good Things...".
I really, really hated that series ending. Mr. Brannon "I LOVE time travel so I'm going to put it in nearly every epsidode I write and there's nothing you can do about it." Braga was running on two cylinders on that episode.
And the "Robin Hood" episode... ARRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH!

Of course, I just realized that you probably wanted as MAIN character.
Hrm...even Wesley didn't bother me as much as Q did.

Flame away. (I'm a Babylon 5 fan from when it was first on TV, so I'm completely used to the venom Star Trek fans used to dish out at me.)

22. No, I agree, but to a point.
Q was annoying. But I got used to his character. The "Robin Hood" episode made me cringe, and as for "All good things," I didn't really like the whole Q circle thing. I would disagree with the supposition that there were no good Q episodes after the first Borg episode. I liked the episode where Q lost his powers and became human. I keep remembering Worf say "You will walk, or I will carry you." Classic. Ready to be flamed as well, I know a lot of trekies love the final TNG episode. Peace...

It just turned into such a mutual ass kissing society. They are the best. They can do anything. They love each other SO much.

25. Before you vote for Wesley, consider this...
http://www.wilwheaton.net/

A quote from his blog:

Last week, a reporter from Salon invited me to contribute to a story that asked, "What will you do if President Bush is re-elected?"

I struggled to find the best way to express how important I feel this election is, and I tried to articulate some of the main reasons I believe that Mr. Bush does not deserve a second term, but there were so many, I kept ending up with over 1000 words. One draft was close to 1700 words, and that was just trying to understand how President Bush and his supporters seem to live in some parallel reality where up is down and we have always been at war with Eurasia. (Or is it East Asia? Doesn't matter. War is Peace.)

it gets better...

It was not a role easy to act, and he did it well. The role just happened to suck.

27. Love Wheaton, but Wesley,
sigh...the horror, the horror.

NOT the actor's fault, tho'. The Great Bird wanted him in those types of story lines, so he had to go along.
