4. Earth 2 pissed me off
Here's a classic example of a sci-fi show with a GREAT premise, but the writers were monkeys with typewriters that had no clue how to realize its potential.

I mean, here's a planet that is appears to be just like Earth. So many directions they could have taken it that would have been cool, but what do they do? Stupid underground dream sucker aliens.

:argh:

2. Planet of the Apes
That was a pretty bad TV show. But now that I think about it, it was still better than the recent remake. :-)

Anyone remember Automan.

Manimal

I think this list will be a lot longer than the good (american) TV SF list will ever be.

Sigh.

I had such high hopes for Joss Whedon's BtVS follow-up.

Last I checked they were still filming but it was a while ago.

I loved that show so much...I miss Captain Tightpants.

6. You thought it was bad?
I really recommend watching the DVDs and giving it another try. It was a fantastic series. Quite well done.

22. I loved VR5!
The problem with that show was the tech geeks kept on tearing apart the tech used in the show. If people would have only paid attention they would have realized that there was something going on with the lead female character that didn't involve tech. They started revealing the secrets of the story near the end of its run, but sadly it was too late for the hard-core techies who refused to watch it.

I still fondly remember the episode where they did an Avenger's take-off. That episode showed that the writers understood the vibe of The Avengers more than the makers of the horrible Avengers movie ever could.

The premise was pretty absurd, but the shows were always interesting and very fast-paced. And Lori Singer is just hot...

27. Sorry. The story went nowhere.
The mystery just wasn't interesting to me....apparently to a lot of viewers too.

9. I won't agree on this one. I ADORED Firefly.
First show to actually try to do it differently. Just a random crew of misfits on an unarmed freighter, operating on the very fringes of civilized space.

Worked for me. Plus I never could decide which character in the show I liked best -- they were all wonderful.

Well, except for Jayne, who was a pain in the ass, but an understandable one. Can't hate a man who'd trade his favorite gun for a cute bride. ;)

Can hardly wait for the movie.

10. Firefly in no way belongs on this list
ANY show would appear to suck if, in its first season, all of its episodes were shown out of order on different nights and in different timeslots, and the pilot were shown only AFTER the show was canceled by idiots at FOX. If you watched this show during its network run, then I submit that you didn't really see it.

I heartily recommend you either buy, rent, or Netflix the DVD box set of Firefly, where you can see this show as God and Joss Whedon intended. You won't be disappointed.

11. WHAT?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!??!
:wow:

I just saw the pilot today.

Yes, there was some pointless and qually gratuitous sex scenes (yuck) and obvious innuendo (the strawberry, ugh), but overall the writing, acting, and production values that clearly influenced the Sci-fi channel Battlestar Galactica remake had proven it's got potential.

Great series.

Firefly movie due out in Sept. 2005 after the star wars episode 3 craps out (which is a safe bet, IMHO.) As Universal owns the movie rights, and if the movie is successful, maybe FOX will request a new series...

Fox blew it. Buy the DVD boxed set and watch from start to finish. It's a fantastic series ahead of its time.

12. Man from Atlantis
Starred Patrick Duffy before he was on Dallas...back in the late 70s..

http://www.jumptheshark.com/m/manfromatlantis.htm

"The man from atlantis goes through an undersea tunnel and winds up in some bizzaro "lost world" air-breathing place that is just like the old american west.   He meets his twin, who is a bad gun-slinger (who had to cut off his finger webbing so he could use a gun), and manages to get him to join the side of good. Patrick Duffy's big break!"

23. The Flash was important for one reason
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 02:17 AM by khephra
It was the first live-action Superhero series that actually had supervillians.

Remember the old Superman and Hulk? They never fought anything that stood a chance against them. The Flash brought in Mark Hamill as The Trickster (IIRC) and finally the show became interesting. I think that role is what inspired his casting as The Joker in the Batman animated series.

Plus it co-stared Amanda Pays (Max Headroom) who I had a major crush on as a teen. I wouldn't miss the show because of her.

20. Can't remember the name.
It was about an alien prisoner who was sentenced to a life term on Earth as punishment and had a computer animated eyeball following him around as he solved crimes and helped people. It was in the eighties, so the computer animation was really, really primitive.

Somebody help me with the name, I can't have imagined it.

26. Okay, youngsters.
Here's one, UFO. ITC production about a small band of heroes saving earth from organ harvesting aliens.

Best line:

Straker theorized that the Aliens might be a humanoid race suffering from congenital sterility. (If your momma is sterile, likely you would be too.)

and then they ruined by getting rid of Boone and Kincaid and focusing on Renee Palmer and the Atavus
