SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.

SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis."

While I was never a fan of Stargate SG-1, I still think it's an impressive feat to last 10 years as as (non-Trek) science-fiction series in America.

I suspect they're just going to dump any unresolved issues into SG-Atlantis and have the SG-1 characters do cameo's on that show.

Can the Ori be defeated in 15 shows? Or will the Ori become villains in SG-Atlantis too? :shrug:

Are the Ori even aware of the galaxy Atlantis is in? I imagine that the Ori can be "defeated" from the way this weapon of Merlin's sounds.

I hate this, although I kinda saw it coming. I mean you can only go so much when every new baddie is bigger than the last and this time they are practically gods. But still to can SG-1 and keep Atlantis!!?>?

7. Well, I was hoping for one more season...

with Ben Browder and Claudia Black. I really enjoy their characters. Hope there are plenty of guest appearances for them and the rest on Atlantis.

But I'm totally hooked on Atlantis. Love McKay and Beckett. Can't stand Ronon. Sheppard is okay.

I had no idea the series wasn't getting picked up for another season until I came across this thread. I just bought seasons 6 and 9 on DVD. Dammit. :grr:

Admittedly, it hasn't been as good without Richard Dean Anderson, and I never was a fan of Farscape, but the "new" cast had decent chemistry and sucky stories were rare.

It totally sucks that they're canceling the series, but to cancel at a cliff-hanger w/out a real series ending would be an absolute slap in the face to all the fans.
