1. Sorry to say - yes.
My favorite Dr. Franklin quote:

"Marcus, this is the kind of conversation that can only end in a gunshot. "

9. Close - but my favorites from the series
"Who am I? I am Susan Ivanova. Commander. Daughter of Andrei and Sophie Ivanov. I am the right hand of vengeance, and the boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to Earth, sweetheart! I am death incarnate, and the last living thing that you are ever going to see. God sent me."

And also:

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao-Tzu, Einstein, Morobuto, Buddy Holly, Aristophanes .. and all of this .. all of this was for nothing unless we go to the stars." - Commander Sinclair

2. I loved his character, particularly in the Walkabout episode
Franklin's struggle with drugs was a major thing in the series.

3. A nice clip of him was included in the SAG awards show
They did a tribute to actors who passed away last year and added a clip of him from Season 1. I think it was from the episode Believers...

"People come to doctors because they want us to be gods. They want us to make it better .. or make it not so. They want to be healed and they come to me when their prayers aren't enough. Well, if I have to take the responsibility, then I claim the authority too. I did good. And we both know it. And no-one is going to take that away."

Very sad loss...

5. Yes, I saw that clip
I'm sure the fact that the head of the SAG is married to Bruce Boxlightner had nothing to do with it.... ;-) He deserved the tribute. Too bad the Emmys ignored him. Oh well, the Oscars ignored the passing of Ruth Warrick, too, even though she had a major role in Citizen Kane.

6. You're right!!
I completely forgot about Melissa Gilbert's position in the SAG...I am sure that the tribute was due entirely to his character as a person and acting ability, though.

Didn't know about Ruth Warrick...interesting. I wonder how the decision is made about who to tribute and who to ignore?

4. Yes, sadly.
Until recently, I was involved in the production of a local SciFi convention. We had Richard Biggs as a guest of honor 2 months before he died. He was funny and charming and really won my heart when he described how he had decided to put family before career, which, according to him, is rarely done in Hollywood. He said most actors live their lives in fear of not working again and it affects everything else in their lives. He left a wife and two little boys. He was a hell of a guy and to think he is gone is just unreal.
