ST Enterprise Why I watch.
I notice a certain irrational hatred for this series. I understand the feeling. I too, hated one of the new incarnations of Star Trek. I felt that it did not live up to its predecessor. Acting, plot lines, characters were all mocking my beloved series. This series was ST TNG. I hated it when it first aired. Nothing like the original. After a few years I realized that the series was quite good, and became a loyal fan. After its demise, ST DS9 was in its infancy. Same thing, I hated it, quit watching Star Trek. However, with time I rediscovered what I had missed, an outstanding series, which I now own in its entirety, on DVD.

I admit, I am a loyal ST Enterprise fan. I did not pay much interest to the first three years, until the last part of season three. I started to watch a few episodes, and became engrossed.

Enterprise offers a look at the early phase of human exploration in the Star Trek universe. As a prequel, it plays upon an enormous body of information, and generally remains true to Star Trek canon. More importantly, this series tends to encompass a positive outlook on the evolution of humankind. More so, I think, than any of the other series.

We already know how humankind progressed from the period in Enterprise, given the wealth of earlier series. The series seems to embrace a feeling of hope for the future. The opening theme projects this feeling with "faith of the heart," an undying desired to better ourselves and advance into space.

To those who have taken a negative attitude toward Enterprise, you might reconsider. Tonights episode was very good, I was captivated. The series is not perfect, can be a bit too space opera at times. I also don't much like the arcs, multi-part episodes with weekly cliff hangers. Too gimmicky, if you ask me. The arc concept can cause a lag in the story as the writers are forced to drag out the story line to fit the time alloted in the multi-part series. Still, I find the series strong and worthy of its predecessors.

Live long and prosper, or flame me for my thoughts.

2. I feel your pain
Probably at the end of the season, or if they ever get around to releasing Enterprise on DVD. I missed most of the first three years. I am itching to explore the Enterprise series from the outset.

4. Enterprise hasn't capitivated me yet, I might give it another chance
I know what you mean about TNG. I was really bored by TNG, but I saw a marked improvement in the 3rd season, starting with episodes like "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "Best of Both Worlds" and I was hooked.

5. Post TNG had some good moments, but none of them had the spark that
TNG or TOS had.

As for DVD sales, I'm buying them used if the discs look well tended to. Paramount's ~$130 is fleecing the customers raw. Most shows go for $80 per hour-long show season. And "Buffy" goes for something like $60.

7. I agree about the price
I got the whole DS9 in Beijing China for 40$. Not the best quality, but a far better price than the 800$ I paid for TNG.

6. I like the arcs
This season has been superb. I like the arcs because they're a nice compromise between abreviated stories, and the season long xindi thing. Plus they're dealing with stuff that is Star Trek, and not all new things.

I had hoped that they'd be dealing with more Andorians, and Tellarites, and other Star Trek traditional races earlier on. They did, but only here and there. My favorite earlier episodes were the Andorian and Vulcan ones with the listening post.

This season though it's been all good...Green Orion Women, Genetic Supermen, and Vulcan history.

8. I Watch Too! It's Still One Of The Better Things On TV
And I just plain enjoy it!

It's not not the BEST, but it's still a fun diversion! People who hate it just take Star Trek too damn seriously!

9. I fuckin' hate Enterprise for one reason and one reason only
Jolene Blaylock. HATE.

Oh, and the fact that Berman actively brags that he's never seen a single episode of the original series. Asshat.

11. Do you have a link?
I have a very neutral opinion of Berman, though I know a lot of Trekies despise him. My opinion is neutral for lack of any real knowledge of his history or positions with regard to the franchise. Any link info would be helpful.

As for Blalock, I like her character, but there is something about the actress I find troubling. Vulcan's with silicone breasts, anorexic waist lines, and collagen injected lips do not foster a positive view of the future in my mind.

10. Lack of quality
I watched the first two years regulalrly, but the lack of quality turned me off. I didn't find the stories generally interesting. I thought that they did too little with the Temoral Cold War, and they almost ignored the first contact stories that where waiting to be written. They took no dramatic chances, and most stories, while not exactly cliche, did seem to miss opurtunities to be really good.

The acting, as well, as very poor. With the exception of the doctor, there is not one actordoing anything above an average job. Which is shame, since I have always like d Bakula in the past.
