CJR: Stations of the Cross
http://www.cjr.org/ (only a brief paragraph is on their website)

The latest issue of Columbia Journalism Review has a sobering, no frightening, article about the rise of evangelical christian news outlets. For starters it describes CBN, the Christian Broadcasting Network, which employs over 1,000 people and has facilities in three U.S. cities as well as the Ukraine, the Philippines, India and Israel. The article says the growth of evangelical radio and tv stations are exploding and most of it is under the radar of the MSM (except Rupert Murdock).

This is what we are up against and it's growing by leaps and bounds. They distort the news to fit the RW christian philosophy. I occasionally listen to these radio stations on the way to West Virginia every week and they are really slick. They have become very professional at delivering the news and sounding rational.

Get a copy of this issue if you can (there's also a good article about Sinclair Broadcasting in the same issue). At some point (soon!) we are going to have to figure out how we can combat this. I think we, as atheists, are going to have to become more assertive and visible.

1. Sinclair Broadcasting was the group who took serious hits,
Just before the campaign, for their plans to broadcast their anti-Kerry documentary. These are evil people, so we shouldn't be surprised. And, yes, we should stand up to people like this. I took part in an e-mail campaign to target all their advertisers. Many backed out and they toned down their message a great deal, but we can't rest on this. These people are still out there and still up to their dirty tricks, lying to the American public. I agree, we need to stay on this and do much more.:-(

As for CBN, this has been around for 20 years, and is now The Family Channel, home of "The 700 Club," and started by Pat Robertson. We all know what he's like. He needs to be stopped, but there are many more like him.:-(

2. I heard a SICKENING rant on Shortwave the other night...

This guy was adressing his comments to the "White Women"...And he used the word "Africanized".

Need I say more? It made "Brother Stair, God's Endtime Prophet to Amurka" sound like a screaming liberal.

This was being broadcast at 100,000 Watts by one of the US "Religious" Broadcasters...

With the exception of the Government's Voice of America, every international broadcaster in america funtions just like the Public Access Channel on your local cable company. you got a hundred bucks? you got a 1/2 hour of airtime, and even though the law states that US International Broadcasts can't be targetted to the domestic audience, we all know (wink-wink) how those radio wave works, so don't forget to give out your 800 number often...
