"I see God all over this!"

I found this masterpiece while trying to put together a quick GD thread: "Xmas Songs That Make Me Want to Kick an Elf."

It was recorded in 1990 and - like so many things on the Intertoobz - never meant to be shared with other people. And since I'm usually the last person on earth to discover Kool Internet Stuff, most of you have probably heard it already.

For those who haven't - here's the jaw-dropping (and ear-splitting) original version of "O Holy Night," which in this case should be re-titled "O Holy Shit!" In the lower ranges, the singer appears to be gargling with razor blades, and the high notes sound like the same blades are being used to castrate him.

I laughed so hard that I nearly quit breathing. Like most of us, I've endured some truly horrendous amateur entertainment during the holiday season - including some people who were every bit as awful as this. And I generally wasn't able to laugh out loud while doing so. So this thing is cathartic:

Some years after it was first uploaded, the singer revealed his identity. He's a Tennessee record producer named Steve Mauldin, and appears in the clip below trying to duplicate the original, "after 20 years and 40 pounds." As you will see in the comments, Steve is pretty devout and thinks his version of the song is evidence of Gawd moving in mysterious ways. He actually did say: "I see God all over this!" He might not appreciate seeing his masterwork in an atheist thread. All the more reason...

6. My dear, you've missed the mother lode
although your entries are good ones.

April Winchell has her holiday songs up now: http://www.aprilwinchell.com/

I particularly like the Bob Rivers tunes, and I find it difficult to get through the season without this little gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuisenFO96o

You can find gifts for all the no taste troglodytes on your list at Winchell's other site, Regretsy: http://www.regretsy.com/

The woman has a truly diseased mind. I like it.

I also like Bob Rivers' stuff, especially "White Trash Christmas."

Dogs: the neighbor's dog started howling up a storm while I was playing "O Holy Night." He shut up when the music stopped.
