Jesus Statue Struck By Lightning, Destroyed
this thing is about 20 minutes north of where i work.

MONROE, Ohio -- A six-story-tall statue of Jesus Christ with his arms raised along Interstate 75 has been struck by lightning in a thunderstorm and the statue burned to the ground.

if i were religious, i would say this was a punishment for the massive display of idolatry...

but i'm not, so i'll just chalk it up to

3. The thing was hideous in person...
I live about 15 minutes from where the "butter" jesus was. In person it looked like a big hunk of sculptured butter. This is something I won't miss but the people who run the church will probably build a new one. There are a lot of religious nut cases here in SW Ohio.

10. Exodus 20:4
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Of course it's no surprise that Christians don't know what their book says.

The original, pure and unfiltered commandment said: "Thou shalt not make any FLAMMABLE graven images."

20. God loves Larry Flynt
Locals, of course, don't know what to make of this apparent sign of the apocalypse. "I can't believe Jesus was struck," one onlooker mused in a Dayton Daily News article today. He also noted that, "the giant Hustler Hollywood sign for the adult store across the street was untouched."

If anyone knows who god was punishing when he struck down touchdown Jesus, seems like Pat Robertson would be the go to guy...
