An apology to those I offended.
I seem to have caused a bit of an uproar with a thread I posted in the Christian Liberals group. To those I offended, I deeply apologize. It was wrong of me to generalize, and I regret that I did so. I posted that thread out of pure reaction, without thoughtful, rational, and mature thought. While that is no excuse for what I said, or the manner in which I said it, I hope it provides some sort of background as to why I said such a thing.

I have asked Skinner to delete the original thread, and I hope that I can earn your forgiveness for such a transgression. Thank you.

1. No, thank YOU.
Emotions run high, on both sides. It's all understandable. But it took an awful lot of guts and personal integrity to apologize. You are a shining example of what Christians can be. Thank YOU for that.

2. I accept your apology
I try to refrain from posting in this forum because I am not an atheist or an agnostic, but I wanted to tell you thanks for your sincere and humble apology. I was one who was offended by your post and told you so in pretty direct terms.

It is a lot easier to keep fighting than to say you're sorry and ask for forgiveness. You done good. I'm impressed.

4. Forgiveness.
You don't need to "earn" it. You have mine without condition, the minute you talk to me like a normal human being.

5. Forgiven. But
I suspect you still are in a quandry about why relations between atheists and Christians are the way they are. As I said in PM it is doubtful your honest questions will be answered by your fellow Christians. If you really want to know why there is so much anger directed towards Christians by some atheists ask us. I cannot speak for all my fellow atheists but I can attempt to offer answers as civilly as the questions used are offered in.

6. E X A C T L Y
the point I've been trying - with minimal success - to make during the past 24 hours.

If I really want to know why atheists are so angry with Christianity, I'll ask an atheist. If I really want to have others like me join in a rant about "them", I'll put the question to other frustrated Christians and watch the sparks fly. I choose to seek truth rather than get mired down in conflict.

That said, I really do think the OP was sincere in his apology here and I think the reaction he gets (or doesn't get) here will be meaningful to him.

There I go again. Let me get out of here before I overstay my welcome!

7. Foregiveness isn't an exclusively christian concept
That you understand that, and offered a sincere apology shows that you're probably more "christian" than most freepers.

I didn't read the original offending thread, but this one put a smile on my face.

9. I don't know what you said but I appreciate the apology
It is wrong to generalize and you prove this with your unique behavior. Thank you for your integrity. By the way, Go Cubbies!
