2. To WHOM?
Go to GD and question God's existence. I don't come here often, but I know I can speak my mind here without pulling punches like I do everywhere else.

I'll make it a point to stop by more often.

Happy Easter....BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

6. It seems like there are only
about 10 people who consistently post along dogmatic lines. The handful of Catholics here get a lot more flack than we do.
The Schiavo thing has really separated the wheat from the chaff here. There are VERY few who seem to hold supernatural views when questioned directly about them. Bring up transubstantiation and see who bites...

15. I'll tell you why Catholics appear to get more flack.
Their church's political goals are often the complete opposite of the liberal agenda. And they don't seem to be upset about that at all, in fact just brush it off as the "few at the top". Well, those few are the ones that set policy, so it matters.

That and the whole covering-up-pedophilia-by-transferring-priests-to-new-parishes-so-they-can-have fresh-victims thing, and then pleading not to have to hand out awards when they're sitting on BILLIONS, if not TRILLIONS of dollars of property and assets.

4. No this room isn't obsolete - it's an exclusive refuge
However, I would say that DU is vastly more secular than the general public or even just Democrats. Even the religion & Theology room seems to be mostly populated by us heathens.

Back in the real world where I live, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a believer.

5. Nah, there are plenty of believers at DU
it's just that they managed to get the POINT, so they're not loud and obnoxious about it like fundies who settled for bigotry and hate.

8. Now here's a typical Xian plea for tolerance...
Pardon me if this is somewhat inappropriate, but... Why are some atheists such douchebags?

9. I'm must be a jerk
because the post I found most annoying in that thread was "Pray For Them".

The poster is a DU member so I assume a liberal xian and generally I can respect a liberal xian. (Meaning they are tolerant, not-pushy, and approach the teachings of Jesus in a way that leads them to similar values and goals as a good "golden rule" atheist. :) )

But I know "Pray for them" is code for "let them rot in hell" for many xians and whenever I hear it no matter from who it rankles me.

10. actually, i think "pray for them" is code for...
i think that it means that they're praying for god to convert us to xtians, so we don't rot in hell..........

as if all of us are destined to rot in some afterlife for being nonbelievers. i certainly agree that it's more insulting than being called a douchebag... :)

12. I thought the same thing
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 09:31 PM by dwckabal
I've always believed that when a Xtian says, "I'll pray for your soul," they really mean, "I hate your guts."

13. That's been my experience.
"I'll PRAY for YOU!" is as close as a myth-believer can come to saying "FUCK YOU!" and still keep his ticket for the RaptureRide.

11. So? Some atheists ARE douchebags
although for sheer numbers, they're a tiny minority of douchebags in general and far outnumbered by Christians (as well as members of all other faiths).

Personally, I don't give a rip what anybody believes in. I've had to tread carefully around beds that had sand paintings on trays under them, and I've had to tell people to drum a little quieter and clean up the chicken blood when they were done.

My only complaint is when they get in MY face and tell ME what to think.

19. For some reason
being called a douchebag by someone who believes that a virgin, unaided by science, became pregnant and delivered a baby who would later die, be reincarnated and float up into the sky, makes me giggle.

20. Try telling them the Truth, and see what happens -
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 06:24 PM by libhill
And the truth is, that corpses of crucified victims in ancient Jerusalem were generally thrown to dogs, to be eaten. And that's more than likely what happened to Jesus, assuming he ever existed, and that the Gospels have a kernel of historical truth.

21. Or "We Love Falwell" Underground...
I can't believe the number of threads I've seen defending that tool.

In my last irate post in GD, I mentioned that I'm a straight guy in a fairly conservative profession. But I know at least 4 people personally who died of AIDS, including 2 co-workers.

I will NEVER forget Falwell's constant bleating that AIDS was "a punishment from Gawd."
