Just checking in
I've been lurking around but I haven't posted in a while. I read that thread about Babies being born Atheists. Trotsky made me proud:yourock:

I just haven't posted much as I don't think I have anything new to add to the topics.

I don't know if any of you feel this way but I am so frustrated trying to live in this xian world.
The propaganda via the bush cartel would have us believe that the only thing left to do is to renounce atheism and join the whackjobs.:scared:

I guess the thing that scares me most is the fact that even when agnostic or atheist family and friends don't seem to be outwardly bothered by the fact that these people (fundies)will stop at nothing until we are either driven out or burned at the stake.

Maybe I am reading too much into things lately.

I have tried to explain until I am blue in the face that the decisions that are made now in government will have a domino effect later on. They all seem to think that we can fix things as soon as the assholes are out of control. I very much doubt that.:eyes:

To top it off I got a call from the fundie mother-in-law asking what I was doing for easter....(I get tired of explaining why I don't go to church even on a holiday) Since my son is too old for the Easter Bunny basket and the money hunt we usually plant some flowers for spring (just him and me).

I probably need to quit being overly sensitive but it is hard in this climate nowadays.

Thanks for letting me rant :)

1. A place to let down the guard
Thats what we are here for. We don't have groups or organizations that we can go to in order to comizerate with our fellow atheists. Or at least not groups that are easily found. The net provides a good place for our scattered members to find each other and gain a collective voice.

Glad to have you here. Need all the help we can get defending the wall.

2. I have read a number
of your posts Az and I have to say that you are very patient and insightful.

You have demonstrated the restraint that I lack when dealing with opposing viewpoints regarding religion.

I end up censoring myself because I get so infuriated when dealing with fundies.

I live in a highly conservative area in California and we have a church on every street corner ;)

Peace

3. Welcome...
and take a deep breath and relax :)

As Az pointed out this is a little online refuge where we can let out frustrations. I'm fairly new too and it's been great.

4. Hey there, Gelliebeans.
Thanks for the compliment. :)

And welcome to our safe haven. After having to keep quiet all day at work, with extended family, or even out in the general public, it's so nice to have somewhere to relax and speak one's mind.

If you haven't already, you should check out the Freedom From Religion Foundation (www.ffrf.org). They have a great newsletter and do a lot of positive things for the freethought community.

Please post often! One of the things that should characterize us is the openness to many viewpoints - the more the better!

And for your relatives' information, the "assholes" are out of any democratic control.

9. Hey! Great to see ya!
Though I certainly understand taking a temporary break. I've done the same from the R&T thread. I can only salute folks like Modem and Trotsky who get in there and slog it out with the Twue Bewievers every day. I just don't have the patience.

Just reading some of the posts makes my head want to explode. The circular reasoning, the grammar-school logic posted by people who allegedly finished college, the Hallmark-Card theology...gak!

I guess a lot of people are surprised that we have conservative areas of California! ;-) I live in the San Fernando Valley. Whenever we are mentioned in the press, it seems the place is ALWAYS referred to as "the hard-core porn capital of America." Even though we certainly have lots of conservative wackos...as evidence by the LTTE in the local paper, the Daily Snooze.

Anyhow, welcome back!
