Richard Dawkins to retire

Dawkins holds the "Charles Simonyi Professorship in the Public Understanding of Science" at Oxford, but he's reached the mandatory retirement age, so he's retiring in September:

In that thread, he says:

Don't worry, you are not getting rid of me that easily! Retirement from the Oxford Chair will free me up to be even more strident, shrill etc etc etc. I expect to be busier than ever, with two Foundations to run (the British and American branches of RDFRS), books to write (I have already started the next one) and who knows what else?

It'll be interesting to see who replaces him: we need "public understanding of science" more than ever.

1. I don't know who will replace him at Oxford, but he will still be working hard on

"the public understanding of science." There's no doubt about that.

2. Wow, didn't realize he was that old.

Or maybe my perspective of age has been skewed by...aham...my advancing years.
