O.K., my Friends, I saw this and just had to post ...
"Focus Broadcast Blames Absent Fathers For Causing Something Besides Homos For A Change

The last three days of Focus On The Family broadcasts have been an panel of apologetics experts (apologeticists?) lamenting how few Evangelicals share their particular correct "biblical worldview." Since my Friday afternoon was filled with mindless AUTOCAD work I had plenty of time to listen to all three broadcasts for yet more gems from Focus.

So what's the newest scourge for which we can blame absent/distant fathers?

No, not homosexuality. Oh please, that's so passé.

Atheism. That’s right, Wednesday’s Focus broadcast (10/19/05) blames distant fathers for causing some of history's greatest athiests."

LOL!

O.K., I'm not an Atheist, and my hubby-bubby-spouse is a Pastafarian, but I figured you might let me get away with this post since I support you on your path 110%, and have had nice DU conversations with many of you.

(I'm a Universalist-Religious-Scientist, and I ENTHUSIASTICALLY honor all paths.)

I turned to my Pastafarian (formerly Atheist) husband, and said, "So, that's what's wrong with you!". He laughed.

Actually, Hubby had a great relationship with his Dad growing up; then his dad retired, followed Hubby's sister back to the Bible Belt, and became a Southern Baptist. But the childhood was good!

Don't they know that atheism is the cause not the effect.

It's the main reason I'm in this club; I love to spread evil to the world. Well, that, and I get Sunday mornings off.

2. Actually...
...my loving, everpresent Dad was the biggest fundy cheerleader in our household. His looney religious beliefs had a lot to do with me becoming an atheist. Thanks, Dad.

4. Mine was quite the skeptic. "A Dios rogando pero con el mazo dando",
he used to say.

And he was ANYTHING but absent. He passed away this February at the age of 91. I miss him. :(

3. This is not new, it's regurgitating Paul Vitz's suspect scholarship
Focus on (your own damn) Family is regurgitating the main talking points of Paul Vitz's book Faith of the Fatherless. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1890626252/002-3552608-2852865?v=glance&n=283155

10. My dad, who was close, was not an atheist.
All he would say on the subject of god was, "Nobody knows." If I pressed him, he would just repeat, "Nobody knows."

He was a great guy.

16. A few years ago in Australia...
One of their Fundie asshats was decrying the Moral Breakdown Of Society. He phrased it in a strange way: "Thousands of children in Australia have only one parent!"

Since the Aussies don't much care for God-botherers, their media had a lot of fun laughing about the weird national epidemic of parthenogenesis.
