Checking in!
:hi:

Made it to Cairo OK. No alien sightings as we flew over the Giza Pyramids. Sorry.

And guess what movie I got to watch?

"Kingdom Of Heaven."

I shoulda waited another month and watched that big overstuffed turkey for Thanksgiving.

Boy, they really had to stretch to cram the Mandatory Love Interest into that one.

Was it just my imagination, or was the actor playing Saladin deliberately made up to closely resemble Osama Bin Forgotten?

BTW, one of the forts Saladin built is right here in Cairo. Inside its walls is the impressive, golden-domed Mosque of Muhammad Ali. The Muslim warrior, not the boxer. But you knew that.

The local folks here had to put up with Muhammad Ali's descendants ruling them until they threw out the last one, King Farouk, in 1952.
So instead of Great Muslim Warrior, they tend to refer to him as "an Albanian mercenary."

In another huge mosque near the fort, Farouk's sister is buried beside her husband--the last Shah Of Iran.

1. Silly onager.
The aliens have disguised themselves so that skeptics can never see them. Duh.

Haven't bothered to catch that flick, and now I know I will never need to. Thanks!

Good luck being holed up in Egypt for the next few months! Post those camel pics soon, alright?

3. LOL! You people are too smart for me!
Of course, I can say the same thing about most doorknobs...

The best thing about "Kingdom Of Heaven" are some of the battle scenes, but you have to wait a LONG time for them. It was fun spotting all the cliches, though. They might as well have called it "Crusader Skywalker" or something similar.

4. Re-checking in...
Sorry I've been missing for a couple of days. Work and foreign internet issues...

Anyhow...woo-hoo! Back in Alexandria. Since Egypt is in the middle of Ramadan it's very weird here. No traffic until 8 or so at night. After fasting all day, people want to get home and EAT, then go out and shop or socialize. Some stores don't even open until after sundown, then they stay open until after midnight. I got to experience this in Saudi Arabia, too.

Another one for our always-expanding "Benefits Of Religion" file...

Will try to post more later. For Mr. Az, I want to try and post some pix of the New Alexandria Library from my last trip.

(You think the Bible has miracles? My room is $70 a night. It's on the 6th floor with a balcony looking right at the crashing waves of the Mediterranean...which I'm happily listening to as I type this...)

5. May the fragrance of a thousand camels...
...(er, I forget the rest)

$70/night? 6th floor? Balcony? Across from the Mediterranean? And you also get paid to do this? I shouldn't complain. I'll soon be winging to Copenhagen, bundled in sweaters, listening to days of discussions of data modeling and XML schemas, but doubt if I'll see much sun or frolic in the waves...

Have a safe stay in Alexandria, Onager.

6. You have a safe trip too!
:hi:

And a FUN trip!

Wrong time of year to frolic in the waves here! It won't get as cold as Copenhagen, but right now it's pretty breezy and starting to get chilly.

It's still pleasant, but there aren't thousands of tourists jamming the city right now. Much easier to go for walks and such.
