1. A horrible president does not prove against the existence of God
Edited on Fri Sep-09-05 03:17 PM by TheBorealAvenger
...and hence make one an agnostic or atheist. This horrible president does prove against the Christian theology of a caring God that determines actions on Earth to look after his people.

(here I am discussing religion--not my strong suit)

edit: "that" becomes "against" See "against" in italics

5. I made no sense because I made a typo!
I had edited that post before posting it and missed my assignments of negatives. It should make sense now, thank you for noting it.

I will develop the idea further. In my impression of most Christians' theology, there is a god that "looks after us" to some degree. To Protestants, who believe in "predestination" or "grace", god will intervene and/or cause changes in results. If you are good, you get spared tumors and if you really earn His grace, you can bag money, a snazzy house, and a really, really bitchin' car.

Ok, so Good God should have prevented all that suffering. If I were Protestant, I would have thrown in the towel when all those innocent people got killed or stranded. To some believers, that would mean becoming agnostic/atheist when rejecting Christianity.

However, that still leaves the believers of some sort of all-knowing god who started the Universe but won't intervene. When a typhoon goes a' spinning toward the the largest city on the largest river delta on the continent, he just folds his arms and says "shit happens". One cannot say they are atheist or agnostic if they believe in Shit Happens God.

Somebody played the Evil Nazi Atheist card again. I thought I showed remarkable restraint this time...;)

6. People "coming out" there.
I guess it takes different stimuli. Some folks there have used George Bush as a reason to question their religious beliefs. Some people have to be beaten around the head and ears before they realize that logic and reason work!

8. Excellent thoughts you posted, IMModerate.
Hopefully they will sink in.
Agnosticism and Atheism are about more than angry reactions to religion and religious idiots.
But being pissed off is a good start!
