Bathtubs: using your senses in a spiritual way
Bathtubs. Does the word bring to mind images of chortling naked babies or a beleaguered mom scrubbing out a dirty ring? What about the bathtub as a spiritual center?

In the words of Deepak Chopra, our purpose in being here, in life, is to “discover our higher self”.
For many people, that’s difficult to do amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. For some busy, babysitter challenged moms, the only place you can have any peace and quiet - however short - is the bathroom.

So instead of going outside the home to find a spiritual oasis, consider your bathtub. It’s practical in a few ways. One, almost every house or apartment in Riverside has one. If you find yourself in place where you don’t have a bathtub? Showers work well also for most uses. Two, it lends itself to spiritual practices for multiple kinds of religion. Three, it’s incredibly inexpensive. Four, it reminds us of our physical connection to spirit.

Using the bathtub

How do different people use bathtubs? Tubs can be used for soaking, with candles to bring together the 4 elements (water, fire, earth and air), meditation, cleansing of the body and mind, cleansing of ritual paraphernalia such as crystals or wands, or the simple task of isolation from others in a way that you don’t have to explain or justify.
