Have any of you heard of this?
http://algore.org/blog/pcmedia/anybody_ever_seethis_wikipedia_polling_2008_list#comment-5466

It is about a rumor that Al Gore won't run if he gets the nobel prize and he wants that more than the presidency...I have not heard that anywhere but from this one post, so I asked the guy where he heard the rumor from.

Maybe my nerves are just on end...this not knowing and wondering is getting to me...if I could stay off the net for two months I would but I am hooked!!

1. An anonymous comment?
No. And "some say" is a typical RW talking point. I get so sick of people pushing their own ideas off as someone else's using those two words.

2. A prize is worth more than a planet for his children and grandchildren?
I don't think so. I don't believe it for a minute that he is that shallow and dumb. Why would he fight for a tiger for the entire globe and give it all up for a prize, no matter how big the prize? I don't buy that.

4. Complete and utter hooey
Lech Walesa won in the mid-80's and ran for office in 1990. Harding and Teddy Roosevelt both won the Nobel Peace Prize while in office. So did Begin and Sadat. Isn't giving the prize to someone in office tantamount to a huge "thumbs up" for a particular policy and/or party?

Besides all that, I think Gore is the kind of person who trade any prize that he could be awarded if people would wake up and realize that we need to take action now. Gore also knows that the best way to effectuate change is to work from the inside, set policy and make sure the best people are on the job. Right now Gore is a roving ambassador. He is seeing the limitations of being the guy who is working to make change from the outside. He'll come to his senses and realize that he can make the dramatic changes we, as a planet, need to make will have a much better chance of happening if he runs and makes people listen and take action.

6. "He'll come to his senses"?
You really resent him being his own man and doing this the way he sees as more effective, don't you? And I bet you don't even see that comment as the least bit rude. And just what exactly are the limitations to being a man working to make change from the outside? I'm sure those of us who followed Martin Luther King Jr. and others who to you were not in possession of their senses as they changed the course of history would like to know.

10. It seems rather selfish
to exclude Mr. Gore from any endeavors in life other than crusading for global warming. He still expresses an interest in politics and I hope that he decides to get involved again (sooner rather than later). Should he decide to get involved, I seriously doubt that he would allow anything to interfere with his global warming efforts. He has already proven that as Vice President. If anything, he would be in a much more powerful position to ensure necessary actions are taken to support his cause. Any private citizen is going to have limitations when it comes to making and enforcing laws that will be necessary to start cleaning up our environment. Is that really not obvious?

He excels at multi-tasking and personally, I think he's more than man enough for the job.

We will always disagree on this matter, but I hope that at some point you can understand that most of us who support him for president are just as concerned about the future as you and many of us will remain just as devoted to supporting his causes whether he runs or not.

We really aren't the bad guys. :)

11. Well, I wasn't responding to you, but...
With all due respect, after the way I have been attacked and ostracized on this site I don't deign to now care what you think about this. And private citizens have been helping to enforce laws for decades. Had it not been for Alice Paul and Susan B. Anthony who were private citizens, women would not have gotten the right to vote. If Martin Luther King Jr. had not done what he did, The Civil Rights Act would not have been passed. If citizens had not stood up enmasse as they did when the Vietnam War was going on, it would still be going on. And this climate crisis will NOT GET TRACTION POLITICALLY until WE demand it of ALL leaders across party lines, and we aren't close to that yet. So don't sit there preaching to me all of a sudden about the 'limitations' of being a citizen just because you want Mr. Gore to run now to give you the "interesting" political campaign you want.

Anyone who supports this man would never type that he is not in possession of his senses simply because he wishes now to do this a different way because it is THAT IMPORTANT to accomplish above all the political BS and hype. Oh, and a little enlightenment for you as well: I SUPPORT HIM FOR PRESIDENT BUT NOT IN THIS TOXIC SYSTEM. The day the people in this country get the guts to stand up en masse to change that BS system instead of always just begging him to do it for them to the point where a good man like him is truly aprpeciated and not just used a political prop, then you won't be able to stop my support for that. So your remakrs on that are bogus as well as is your fake smilie.

12. You don't know
anything about me. You do not know how many marches I've walked in. You do not know how many hours I have spent literally STANDING up to change the system. I DO NOT BEG anyone to DO ANYTHING for me.

Do not presume to know me or what I do to make what small difference I can. Do not reflect your asinine accusations about using Mr. Gore as a political prop onto me when you use his name in your screen name to push your message on these boards.

You have no right to speak for Mr. Gore or to condemn people on his behalf. Just because you have an OPINION of what you THINK he wants, doesn't make it so. It is incredibly arrogant of you to think that you are the only one out there trying to make a difference and that only your opinions count.

And I suggest you do what you need to do to deal with it. Don't project your false impressions on me. Now I'm done with you and this bogus folder and responding to your incessant harrassing of me.

8. Don't buy it. Gore isn't that shallow.
Read some of the other posts by that person. The poster is either not too deep a thinker or possibly even a plant. Not the green chlorophyll kind either. :P

22. Agreed. I don't buy it on it's face.
Al Gore will not run a traditional campaign.
Al Gore has not decided to run. He has not decided not to run.
And he has said as much.
I come here to continue to proclaim that Al Gore is my first choice.
And that I support a late entry into a non-toxic candidacy.

Gotta tell you though. The current front-runner http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/8/3/05910/48951 scares me. And if every now and then some desperation leaks out, please forgive me.
