1. Great!
I enjoyed that!

3. Not only did I enjoy it, I rated it a "5"
Thanks for posting it.

And Happy Birthday. I didn't know.

fwiw, my computer crashed shortly after the transformer (conveniently located behind our garage) blew out. We've spent the better part of the past week trying to recover most of our office files so we can resume work with the clients. We've also been having problems with other electrical appliances. :eyes:

8. I did know it was your birthday
I remembered this morning an earlier post about the possibility of Gore announcing in August and you said (something to the effect) that it would be a nice birthday present. You even gave the date! D'oh! Oh well, at least I remembered it. It's nice to know that my synapses still fire from time to time.

9. Too bad that prediction didn't come true and
I didn't get that birthday present I so wanted! I'm starting to think maybe he won't run after all. It's really getting me down sometimes.

10. I'm actually more optimistic than ever
Especially the recent statements he has made about how none of the current field have put climate change as their number one issue. I'm in complete agreement with Gore that the climate crisis should be the biggest issue. I know we're in Iraq. I know we need to impeach these bastards. I know we need national health care. I know we need reliable methods for fair elections and safe voting. I know we're in deep shit in a lot of areas but if we don't have a habitable planet we're fighting on fronts that won't matter. I think Gore is beginning to realize that he needs to step up to the plate.

11. I agree with yout 100% on the climate crisis
I sure hope you're right. I'm just afraid he's going to see how far HRC is out ahead of the pack and not jump in. I hope he's looking at how she'd do in the general and see it's not a done deal. The Republicans and the media are pushing her down our throats and I think he's the only one who can stop the train in its tracks.

12. You've got to give Gore more credit than that
Gore gets around more than any of the candidates and pundits. He knows what's going on both in and out of the political sphere. His understanding of how the media works and how to work the media is pretty savvy. He knows what he's doing.

I think you're big concern is the time line. You have to remember it is an artificial time line and it has been pushed up because of the media. The media makes a lot of money off of campaigns primarily through advertising sales. The earlier it starts the more money they make. Not only that, by starting earlier the media is hoping to pick the candidates for us. People aren't going to pay attention to politics until after Labor Day. It's an American tradition that is rooted in our agricultural past. Summer doesn't end until Labor Day. When people aren't distracted with what their kids (or their neighbor's kids) are doing during the day and they aren't taking them to practice or watching little league games in the evening they'll pay more attention. Then there are the people who settle in to watch college and pro football games they also begin to talk to each other about things like what's happening with education, taxes and the future. That's when they start paying with what's happening in the rest of the world. It's stupid. But it is the way it seems to work. Trust me. I don't see much of my neighbors until school starts.

During the summer my are either taking the kids some where or they are picking them up or watching them play. Some of my neighbors are grandparents who are watching the kids during the day while the parents are at work. And, here in the college town, leases are up and people are either exchanging apartments and/or moving out on their own for the first time. In the fall, the neighbor's kids are doing homework or playing. The grandparents are taking a break and the college kids have either settled into their fall routine or they are preparing to drop out. That's when I get to talk about politics and what's going on in the world.

13. I know he does, Mabus
I didn't mean to sound like I wasn't giving him credit for knowing what's going on. I'm sure he does, believe me.

I don't really expect him to do anything until after October 12, but if it's not soon after that I'm going to lose my mind. I'm also going to start getting busy on a congressional campaign and I'd like the draft movement to be over! My already limited time is going to dwindle down to nothing.

16. Tell me about it
My head is spinning. I'm still working on recovering data, we've got a couple of client reports due next week and one of my babies is at the doctor with blood in her urine (11 year old Lhasa Apso) for observation today. And that's just the stuff that I'm working on to tread water for today. All I know is, I could sleep much better at night knowing that Gore has declared.

Here's to some more sleepless nights :toast: Oh well. You know what they say about waiting for good things.

14. You've got it right about people being busy...
They are also getting school stuff for their kids, working out how they are going to get them to school, getting their last minute vacations in, etc.

In fact, wouldn't be at all surprised to find out later this year that the Gore clan have been having their vacation this month together and discussing the year to come. HOpefully, they have finished voting on whether or not he will run.

15. We've got two in college this year
Next year it will be three or four. One is a HS senior and the other will be getting back from the Peace Corps. Then there's the two who are already attending and we also have one in Middle School. I've also got a nephew (who should be here any minute) in town who has enrolled in college too. We got him settled in his dorm room this past weekend.

I hope the Gore family is taking some time together because they'll need to be well-rested come this fall. ;)

17. Wow. I just have one in High School...
kudos to you for balancing all of that! Our guy is really a wonderful kid - but the focus is intense for just this one. I would be a puddle on the floor if there were 4 or more.

18. They're all stepkids
I have none of my own but I am well practiced. Since mom died over ten years ago I've become the surrogate mom to my nine siblings. Five stepkids are a breeze compared to ironing things out between my siblings and being their mother confessor.

You are one strong woman. How lucky your sibs are that you stepped up to help. If they don't know it now, they will someday.

20. It also explains why I never seem to get anything done
but I have to admit it makes me feel pretty good to know they love and trust me enough to open up to. We're a pretty close knit family and I'm lucky to have them as siblings.
