Holy cow - how did we miss this???
I remember reading pieces of this earlier this year but not the dates. Could he announce this week?

Pass the smelling salts... and a shot of brandy while you're at it.

Will Al Gore Make His Move...?

by: odum
Fri Aug 17, 2007 at 21:40:05 PM EDT

Back in April, GMD front pager Brattlerouser posted the following:

In a Lost TV exclusive ...

Insiders at Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection told Lost Nation TV that the former vice president and Oscar winner will announce his candidacy for president sometime between August 18th and 21st.

I called Editor Jack McEnany to confirm and he said, "yes."

To nobody's surprise, the report wasn't taken seriously, but B'rouser had some compelling connections. And since then, this tidbit from the Taipei Times (http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2007/06/27/2003367023 ) made the rounds, round-about June 27th (emphasis added):

Former US vice president Al Gore will not be able to make it to Taiwan this September to address the issue of global warming, Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Tien Chiu-chin (???) said yesterday. Tien, who invited Gore to visit Taiwan to promote awareness on global warming, told reporters yesterday that she received an e-mail from the Harry Walker Agency, which has the exclusive right to arrange Gore's speeches, saying that Gore had canceled all his scheduled events in the next six months. The visit to Taiwan had been postponed to next year, she added. Tien said the reason for the cancelation was that Gore was considering a presidential bid.

Curious. There is some renewed mumbling among the netroots in places such as HuffPo and dKos. It's possible they've all read the reports and have them in the back of their minds. It's also possible there's something in the air they're all picking up on.

In any event, Brattlerouser's time window begins anout 2 hours from now. I know I'm watching (poll after the fold):

They've moved this to their front page. :bounce:

http://www.greenmountaindaily.com/frontPage.do

They've also got a poll after it, asking if you'd vote for Gore. I didn't vote cuz you have to log on, but the vote was @ 76% yes for Gore.

2. This was already debunked by his office

Gore spokesperson denies latest 2008 rumor in Asian newspaper Michael Roston
Published: Friday June 29, 2007

A spokesperson for former Vice President Al Gore denied rumors in an Asian newspaper about the Oscar-winner's presidential plans in 2008.

"He is heavily booked with work and engagements through the Fall," said Kalee Kreider, a spokesperson for Al Gore, when contacted via e-mail by RAW STORY. "His position on 2008 has not changed."

Gore, who won an Oscar this year for his global warming-centered documentary An Inconvenient Truth, was said in a Taiwanese newspaper to have canceled all events for the next six months in preparation for a presidential run next year.

Kreider said there was no truth to the report and that the Taiwanese paper had not contacted her office for comment.

Several conservative blogs, including the National Review Online's Corner and Captain's Quarters reported on the Taipei Times item uncritically.

"Cancelling six months of commitments clears him throught at least the start of the primary elections next year," wrote the latter's Ed Morrisey. "Of course, this could just be Gore's way of dumping the Taiwan appearance in a way that doesn't burn bridges."

3. Yes, you are right...
I do remember the debunk of the Taiwan story - but this is the first time I read of the earlier story that gave the August dates.

Thanks for the links...

4. I believe the other stie is also not credible...
and tends to slant to the right. I did read that story and responded to them about it. The Alliance for Climate Protection would never say such a thing, especially to someone from a site like that that they had any idea would print it. To me it simply sounds like more RW bs in trying to discredit Mr. Gore's efforts and organizations.

7. Sorry for posting...
I didn't follow the Lost Nation link until just now... assumed it was Gore friendly... which it is not.

5. This week would be as likely as any. But
as discussed I doubt the authority. I simply do not believe that a decision has been made.

I think that the proper thing to do with regard to a potential candidacy is to let it be know that the support for him is there, and it's strong.

And that a candidacy can be successful without embracing the negative elements. I think the progressive left has stood up with a rather strong voice in support of Gore. Not only in for campaign, but the cause.

The hurdle is, can a campaign be successful and non-toxic at the same time?

There are no secrets. I think that Al Gore has pretty much said these things.

8. LOL - I was just coming to post this
Here's the link I've got: http://www.lostnation.tv/html/gore_to_announce_.html

My birthday is the 21st and this would be the best birthday present ever if it's true.

9. So what's the story with Lost Nation?
Edited on Sun Aug-19-07 06:56 AM by rosesaylavee
The link I have above - which I didn't look at prior to posting (my bad) appears to be unfriendly to Gore. Do they attempt to be bi-partisan or are they really a rwing site?

It would be truly wonderful if he were to announce this week - and of course a a pretty good birthday for you too!

edit to add: Here's the link to Lost Nation that's not quite friendly... http://www.lostnation.tv/

Not sure what date this appeared on the site. Found this link by following the April link in the Green Mountain link above to what was supposed to be the original April Lost Nation entry about this.

10. I have no idea
I never heard of them until last night when I found that link. I looked around the site a little after I read this thread, and I saw both pro and con stuff out there. Does anyone know for sure if they're a RW site?
