8 years late, the NY Times issues correction about Gore and earth tones
formatted to match the original entry at The Daily Howler.

EIGHT YEARS TOO LATE:
If this nonsense hadn’t changed world history, you could just throw your head back and roar! Yesterday, only eight years too late, the New York Time finally corrected. Cover the eyes of the children and pets. Sit down when you read this:

NEW YORK TIMES CORRECTION (7/29/07): An article last Sunday about politicians' choice of clothing while campaigning referred incorrectly to the role of Naomi Wolf in Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. She was a consultant on women's issues and outreach to young voters; she was not Mr. Gore's image consultant and was not involved in his decision to wear earth-toned clothing.

Naomi Wolf “was not involved in his decision to wear earth-toned clothing,” the Times finally proclaimed (our emphasis). And it only came eight years too late!

1. They will NOT be allowed to smear him
again this time. I think his supporters this time will rise up enmass to call the news outlets that attempt such ridiculous tactics... boycotts, pickets, calls will keep these liars in line.

2. It is definitely a different atmosphere than 2000
thanks, in part, to Gore's push to get the internet to the public.

I agree. We, the netroots/grassroots people, had more of an effect in 2004 than 2000. We had more of an effect in 2006 than 2004. As we learn to organize and get the word out on the internet we're having more of an impact. Heck, we even have a liberal media with the radio/internet stations that we didn't have in 2000. The corporate media is getting very scared of the increasing power of the internet to hold them accountable.

3. I think the next step has to be
physical connections between those who know each other on the internet only. Just have a strong hunch that relying on the internet only makes us vulnerable. I would like to know that if the internet went down, I could still connect with others on this board.

I was fortunate to attend the meetup at the Draft Gore event at Yearly Kos - it was enlightening to say the least as per what Mopinko has already reported elsewhere on this forum. It will be just a short time until Gore announces this fall and then, whoa what a ride until the first primary in February. It will need all of us working on his behalf to pull this off.

9. Everyone has to be doing local stuff in person
as well as online in case god only knows if they can find a virus that will kill some sites, I wouldn't put it past the right to screw with the internet next election.

Last election, I was online, and in person in charge of voter registration for a large area of my city and attending many meetings and making phone calls to volunteers, doing out of state trips with Sierra Club and going door to door....

I won't do anything but vote if its the others but if its Gore I already warned my husband, watch out, I will be working 24/7 he deserves it, we can't let him down. We are pushing him to run so we have to back him up, if it takes phone calls, rallies, letters, door to door, what ever!

10. I agree - we need to be on top of it
on all levels - esp if Gore runs this time 'round. I'll be damned if I let them steal it again. My pitchfork is ready and sitting by the door. I am continually surprised there are not mass demonstrations. Thanks corporate media for keeping most Americans anesthetized.

5. I was just catching up on the Howler today and read this.

Did it ever get posted in GDP??? People should be reminded of how some people, like Maureen Dowd and Chris Matthews, kept repeating the lies over and over.

Dowd falsely claimed that Naomi Wolf wrote a book encouraging women to "get in touch with their inner slut," and was teaching Gore to be an Alpha male.

6. I think I did see it in GD...
bet we will have opportunity to repost it this fall when the lie will inevitably get repeated once he announces. <sigh>

7. It will help that the NYT has admitted they were WRONG.

But Maureen Dowd needs to go. She's a terrible "journalist." She should be writing for the National Enquirer or doing a gossip column (actually she IS doing a gossip column, isn't she?) :grr:

8. You got that right
Dowd isn't a journalist. She's another media personality who disguises herself as a journalist.
