OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Marine Corps officials at Camp Pendleton on Friday released a list of the units deploying in this winter’s rotation to Iraq.

The forces, part of I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), led by Maj. Gen. John F. Kelly, will take over as Multi-National Forces-West in Iraq, a force of Marines with Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based II MEF and soldiers currently led by Marine Maj. Gen. Walter E. Gaskin.

The units slotted for the first half of the rotation belong to several commands with I MEF, including 1st Marine Division and 1st Marine Logistics Group from Camp Pendleton and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego.

The bulk of the forces will deploy to Iraq in two separate seven-month rotations, with the first rotation arriving in Iraq starting this month. Headquarters units generally will deploy for a yearlong combat tour.

Among the units heading to Iraq is one of the Corps’ MV-22 Osprey squadrons, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 from New River Marine Corps Air Station in Jacksonville, N.C.
