Soldiers with the 4th Infantry Division are packed and ready
for the division’s third deployment to Iraq, and a colors casing ceremony is scheduled for next week at Fort Hood, Texas.
The division headquarters will once again take command of Multi-National Division-Baghdad at Camp Liberty, where the colors will be unfurled in early December.
The 1st Cavalry Division, which is also based at Fort Hood, assumed responsibility for MND-B from the 4th ID in November 2006, and some lead elements have already begun redeploying from Iraq.
Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond, commander of the 4th ID, will preside over the Nov. 16 colors casing ceremony at Fort Hood, alongside division Command Sgt. Maj. John Gioia.
The 1st Brigade Combat Team and Special Troops Battalion will also case their unit colors on Nov. 16, even though the 1st BCT’s deployment orders have been delayed until March.
The brigade was slated to begin deploying in mid-November to replace the 1st Cavalry Division’s 3rd BCT in Diyala province, a turbulent area north of Baghdad.
