Car crash kills pvt., recently discharged GI

TACOMA, Wash. — A soldier from New Jersey and a former soldier have been identified as the pair who died in a car wreck.

Police say 23-year-old Godwin Adeniyi Jr. was driving when the car went out of control and smashed into a tree early Sunday. Also dead in the crash was 21-year-old Pvt. Juan Arce Jr. of Paterson, N.J.

Arce was a food inspector in the 218th Medical Detachment, 62nd Medical Brigade, and served in Kuwait for a year ending in December 2006. Adeniyi was discharged from the Army on Oct. 19 for reasons that were not immediately available.

Police say Adeniyi apparently was either racing or chasing another car moments before the crash. An investigation is continuing.
