Teri Shimp was at work when men from the Army arrived with the news she didn't want to hear.
Her son, 28-year-old
Capt. Scott N. Shimp of Bayard, died Tuesday in a military helicopter crash during a training flight in northeastern Alabama.
Bayard is in the Panhandle, about 23 miles southeast of Scottsbluff.
Also killed in the crash were
Chief Warrant Officer 2 David M. Stanley, 33, of Fort Rucker, Ala., and
Sgt. Jeffrey Scott Angel II, 24, of Gauley Bridge, W.Va.
They were in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter that struck power lines in foggy weather and plunged into a pasture, according to a release.
They were all assigned to Company C, 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
