Any others get this tee shirt in the mail?
From the 'Disabled Veterans' Life Memorial Foundation.

There is a big USA Flag printed across the tee front with "Freedom Is Not Free" underneath.

Flag Code Section 8D "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery."

It seems they too disregard 'The Code' as does 'Bush the First'.

I am returning the shirt and the empty donation envelope along with my reasons why.

For all the good it will do.

1. Good for you.
I didn't serve but I thank you for serving. Thanks also for knowing the code. Too few people do.

2. Don't forget to fill the envelope with anti-war literature.
Good on you for taking the time to return the shirt. I hope you cite the flag code as well.

I invest $5 a year in the Republican party. It gets me on all sorts of right wing mailing lists. I use the postage paid return envelope to send them information on NARL, Family Planning, and other lefty movements.

My $5 uses up hundreds of $$ in postage for them.

To quote George Bush, "Heh, heh, heh."

3. They should make a Tshirt with that quote
from the flag code. Perfect for 4th of July.

4. I always give them the benefit of the doubt
and reason, it's a picture of a flag, not a flag. If they cut a hole in a flag and used it as a poncho, I would definitely have to draw the line.

5. You continue to be my Hero, Shipmate!
I haven't received that T-Shirt, yet, but I probably will. I give the DAV a few bucks every now and then but I haven't heard of the Life Memorial Foundation. Today, I got a big package of cards from the VFW. Their politics are pushing my buttons and they say they need me cause I'm a "youngin." I may just start being more than a passive member and take over.

7. Not the DAV BOSSHOG.
At first glance I thought it was. I donate regularly (Not much) to the DAV. This is NOT the DAV.

I resent that some unthinking money grubbers have usurped our flag.

I have a forty eight star cloth flag that flew proudly on a Navy ship in the Pacific. My boss Dr. Edward Lanphier gave me that flag years ago. I do not fly it because I do not wish to subject it to the political false patriotism that I perceive day to day.

One day soon I hope I can put it on my flag staff. Until that time I will fly the 'Don't tread on me' Gadsden flag of the Revolutionary war.

I should not allow this to be upsetting me. But it does.

9. I like your thinking 180
My retirement flag is respectfully encased in a wooden shadowbox which I proudly show any and all visitors to my home. My office is a shrine to the USA and my Naval Service. My neighbor, who never served, but is a by god bush supporter, has a big old flag pole in his yard. I showed him my flag which I have no desire to put on public display and baubles of my military service. He felt impotent; and yet can not understand why I vote the way I do. Yes, false patriotism is all the rage today. I guess it makes some people feel good about their personal weaknesses. Fly that Gadsden Flag and to hell with others upsetting you.

10. Oh boy!
Do not get me started on VFW politics.

For starters our local post had many ineligible members. When I challenged their membership eligibility and demanded to see their DD214s I was darn near kicked out my-own-self. Subsequently the very people I challenged were discovered to be lying.

The VFW magazine has in my opinion always been right wing in opinions and philosophy. Several issues back there was an article by a right wing religious person. It was of such religious dimensions that it did not belong in the VFW magazine.

Now since I am not welcome in the local post I have become a member at large.

Bitch bitch bitch. Shut up 180.

OK.

6. There was a man on television
a few years ago, supposed to be some kind of flag etiquette expert. He said that wearing clothing with the flag on it is okay. As long as it is not an actual flag, there is no problem.

I don't remember his name.

8. Arm Flags
such as policemen and firemen wear have been approved.

I suppose the code could be interpreted to mean 'An actual flag'.

I do not read it that way as the code goes on to mention that decorating other inanimate objects with the printed/painted flag as being against the code.

11. I interpret it the way you do,
but the flag expert said only the "actual" flag was not to be worn, etc.
