Do you remember when and where the first time someone said "Welcome Home" to you (and really meant it, other than family, of course)

I do, clearly.

It was on the Mall in DC, at the tent they had set up there forever and ever near the then-being-built memorial at about 0300.

I could not sleep, so I went there for... what? Dunno.

Met a guy, fell into serious TINS stories, and as we were parting, for I was finally tired, he turned to me, took my hand and said, "Welcome Home, bro."

I started crying, did not get back to where I was staying that night, vaguely remember walking, and shortly after sunrise I was on Theodore Roosevelt island soaking wet and staring at the Potomac River. But I felt good.
