Sean Hannity and Ollie North accused of scamming Veterans
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 01:48 PM by white cloud
In line with our article on those non-profit organizations that do provide a service to our Veterans and ‘Support Our Troops’ as was covered in my previous article Do All Non-Profits really Support Veterans, Troops, and Military Families?

We will be exposing reports of fraudulent efforts and causes that scam our Veterans and Troops. We are also working on getting the latest ratings of organizations that provide services or support to our Veterans and Troops from the American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) that has reportedly just released its latest ratings for April-May 2010.

Joe Conason at Salon reports that Sean Hannity and Ollie North say they collect millions of dollars for veterans’ kids. But where did the money go?

1. I can't believe that a man who would lie his ass off about selling weapons to Iran...
...and then using the money interfere in a Nicaraguan civil war in violation of Federal law could do something so dishonest!

5. I'd bet that they were aware that it might have been a "money-laundering scheme" to
funnel $$$ to S.H. and O.N. ... and they would write it off on their taxes as a "charitable donation" ... wasn't Ollie considering a run for office at one point?

7. Freedom Alliance

Mr. Weigel- Have you actually reviewed the Form 990 tax returns? It is impossible to conclude that a reasonable amount of money has been reaching the intended beneficiaries. This is not a matter of questionable reporting - this is a simple matter of reviewing the tax returns. While you're at it, you might review what the Institute of Philanthropy had to say about Freedom Alliance. They are a leading charitable watchdog with no political axe to grind as they rate all charities - not just military based programs. They graded Freedom Alliance an 'F' on an 'A -F' scale. What is your interest in reporting this so inaccurately?
:bounce:

8. According to a 2006 tax filing Freedom Alliance spent 3% of income on programs and 97% of income on

From the article: "less than 20%–and in two recent years, less than 7% and 4%, respectively–of the money raised by Freedom Alliance went to these causes, while millions of dollars went to expenses, including consultants and apparently to ferry the Hannity posse of family and friends in high style. And, despite Hannity’s statements to the contrary on his nationally syndicated radio show, few of the children of fallen soldiers got more than $1,000-$2,000, with apparently none getting more than $6,000, while Freedom Alliance appears to have spent tens of thousands of dollars for private planes."

Since 2003 Freedom Alliance has collected in cash $48,241,571! Since 2003 they have spent on the Wounded and Dead Veterans and their Families $1,781,782 or .036 cents on the dollar, according to their own IRS 990's!
